Position Overview: The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the analytical laboratory within the Metal Finishing facility. This includes but is not limited to supervision and development of laboratory technicians, overseeing internal and external testing, trend analysis, equipment and chemical purchases to support the laboratory, wastewater, and Metal Finishing. This position works closely with EH&S to provide information required for environmental compliance.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

Chemical/Laboratory: Perform chemical activities and lab work relating to metal finishing processes including but not limited to the following:


  • Control titration and analytical chemicals and maintain documentation of titrations and processes for applicable metal finishing activities.
  • Work with EH&S Manager and the Wastewater Engineer on the disposal, labeling, and arrangement for pickup for hazardous materials and hazardous wastes.
  • Active inventory management is required by working with the Metal Finishing Manager, MF Wastewater Engineer, and Purchasing department to obtain chemicals in accordance with AS9100 purchasing requirements.
  • Participate in periodic testing and performance evaluations.
  • Perform calibration on equipment as it relates to the laboratory
  • Supervise, hire, and develop laboratory personnel and complete performance evaluations
  • Review of specifications for chemistry compliances and deviations as applicable
  • Maintain database of operating tank for Nadcap compliance and restrictions by specification.
  • Manage the disposition of used chemicals.
  • Perform outsource testing for periodic and production testing
  • Other duties as assigned.


Process Controls/Validation Testing: In support of customer and audit requirements, the Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the performance of process acceptance and periodic testing activities within the metal finishing department. The individual will work closely with metal finishing, inspection, and quality management in achieving these objectives. Testing includes, but is not limited to the following: salt spray, humidity, coating weight, adhesion, conductivity, hydrogen absorption, intergranular attack, hydration, taber abrasion, bend, and embrittlement testing.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization.
  • Strong analytical, data interpretation, and general trouble-shooting skills.
  • Knowledge of any chemical and metal finishing processes, procedures, and industry standard specifications.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and the submission of annual reports to federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Use of/familiarity with AA unit, analytical balance, pH, ORP, titration, and electronic analytical equipment.


Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or close life sciences degree, i.e. biochemistry, biology, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant Laboratory experience.
  • Must maintain thorough comprehension of current and applicable industry standard and aerospace prime specifications.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001:AS9100 and Nadcap preferred. 
  • Proficient computer skills with a thorough understanding of Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Excel.
  • Able to speak and write English (Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus).
  • Individual must be authorized to work in the U.S. 
  • This position requires access to ITAR-controlled information and materials. The successful candidate must meet all ITAR eligibility requirements, including being a U.S. person as defined by ITAR. 


Reports: The Laboratory Supervisor will report directly to the Senior Quality Control Manager and interface with the Metal Finishing Management team for additional guidance.


Hours: Start times may vary depending on position and department; must be flexible to work overtime and additional hours as needed to support the department in times of increased demand.
