Role Overview

The role of Treasurer and FP&A Manager blends leadership in both treasury functions and financial planning and analysis. This position leads and optimizes the company's treasury operations and financial planning activities, combining hands-on management with strategic analysis and cross-functional collaboration.

 

The Treasurer and FP&A Manager leads and optimizes the company’s Treasurer and financial planning functions, blending hands-on operations with high-level analysis and cross-functional collaboration.

 

Treasurer

  • Oversee daily cash positioning and forecast both short- and long-term liquidity to ensure operational and strategic financial needs are met. Review and approve payment requests to avoid errors and duplicates.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations (daily, weekly, monthly) and promptly investigate any discrepancies to maintain accuracy.
  • Manage relationships with financial institutions and handle all aspects of bank accounts — setup, maintenance, and closure.
  • Prepare and analyze cash flow statements and Treasurer reports, support closing processes with journal entries, and take ownership of the 13-week cash flow forecast.
  • Ensure accurate recording and application of all cash receipts and disbursements across accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and other transactions for complete cash accounting.
  • Facilitate timely payment of obligations and collection of receivables, supporting the company’s cash flow health.
  • Assist in designing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Treasury, purchasing, and expense management processes.
  • Design and implement internal controls related to cash management and treasury operations to prevent risks and ensure compliance.

 

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • The FP&A Manager leads or supports the budgeting process by collaborating with departments to gather financial needs and prepare realistic budget plans aligned with company goals.
  • They reforecast periodically, adjusting financial plans based on actual performance and changing conditions to keep financial goals on track.
  • Variance analysis is performed to compare actual financial results against budgets or forecasts, identifying causes for deviations and providing insights for corrective actions.
  • Compiling historical data is essential for trend analysis, understanding past performance, and feeding accurate inputs into forecasts and reports.

 

Compliance & Controls

  • Support audits by gathering appropriate documentation and coordinating timely responses for financial and SOC 2 auditors.
  • Manage vendor contracts and SOWs, ensuring compliance with budget and contractual terms to control costs and risks.

 

Process Optimization

  • Automation streamlines finance and SG&A processes, reducing cost and manual workload.
  • Cross-functional collaboration improves process adoption, training, and communication of finance insights.
  • SG&A optimization focuses on stopping non-value adds, simplifying operations, and performing with digitization and automation support.
  • Effective governance, benchmarking, and synergy tracking are important for sustainable cost management and operational excellence

Strategic Initiatives

  • Automation projects in accounting, reporting, and treasury improve accuracy, efficiency, and cash visibility through integrated technology solutions.
  • A new payment processing vendor should align with goals of automation, security, and cost control.
  • Insurance risk management ensures optimal coverage and timely renewals to protect the company’s assets and operations.

 

  • Reporting Structure
     Reports to CFO on Treasurer, FP&A, and strategic finance topics reflecting strategic financial oversight and planning.
  • Reports to Controller on accounting and month-end close ensuring operational accuracy and compliance.

This structure supports effective collaboration and information flow between strategy and execution within finance.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) for treasury expertise.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for accounting and finance expertise.
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) for management accounting and financial management.

Experience

  • 3 to 7 years of experience in treasury, financial reporting, and full-cycle accounting is commonly expected. Some sources note a preference or requirement for 5+ years or even 8-10 years for more senior roles.
  • A background working with or within government agencies can be beneficial or required for roles in public sector-related organizations.
  • Proven success in vendor oversight and contract compliance is often specified, reflecting the need for managing third-party relationships and maintaining control over external expenditures.
  • Proven experience leading automation initiatives that integrate multiple information systems is highly valued. Experience with tools like Microsoft Power BI or similar business intelligence platforms is often required, particularly how these tools are used to automate reporting and analytics processes.
  • Managing external vendors for software automation and customization is also desirable, indicating responsibility for project management and technical coordination in finance automation.

 

Technical & Analytical Proficiency

  • Overall, mastery of ERP systems for integrated financial operations, advanced Excel for analytics, sharp analytical abilities, strong communication skills, and self-management capabilities are foundational competencies for this strategic finance role.
