Position Summary
Under general supervision, this position protects, preserves, and perpetuates Wanapum heritage, language, history, areas of importance and cultural artifacts.
Essential Functions

accommodations will be made as required. The job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Patrol the Priest Rapids Project and areas of importance to the Wanapum by boat, truck, or walking; check for infringements upon culturally significant areas; address potential disturbances or vandalism with efficiency and professionalism; protect the land areas around the Priest Rapids Project and other Wanapum interests by keeping constant vigilance.
- Inform the public on appropriate use of Priest Rapids Project lands; provide guidance and direction on the respectful use of public lands; demonstrate problem solving skill and handle interactions with the public, coworkers and other professionals respectfully in potentially tense situations.
- Assist in surveys, studies, and various evaluations as directed by Cultural Resources Manager, or supervisors; provide transportation, guidance, and expertise regarding infringements, areas of concern, and recreation areas.
- Monitor and oversee the sights and traditional cultural places along the river from Rock Island Dam to Vernita Bridge; protect all areas of importance to the Wanapum and help in the management of the Priest Rapids Project area.
- Support the Wanapum Heritage Center by providing front desk administration periodically; facilitate the Living Cultures Program including gathering cultural materials, organizing parades, and assisting with events.
- Preserve, protect, and perpetuate Wanapum culture and heritage for future generations; support the Heritage Center in the Wanapum language department recording and documenting cultural dialect and oral histories as directed; administer recording sessions with elders, classes, and tribal people, effectively
preserving stories; develop teaching materials for community classes. - Communicate effectively and attend meetings as directed including work group, safety, and travel meetings; document daily activities and report on important items; keep accurate records and photos where necessary.

Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Licenses & Certifications):
- High School Diploma
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Utilities’ policies and procedures, historic properties guidelines, and cultural resources reporting; local, state, and federal law governing cultural resources; Priest Rapids Project boundaries.
- Skill in problem solving; written and oral interpersonal communication; public interfacing; communicating with Native American tribes; GIS and AutoCAD software, tools, and applications.
