The Education & Training Manager – MEDCOMM (ETM) is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive training program for all Medical communications personnel, including dispatchers, call takers, supervisors and Patient Transport Coordinators. This position ensures that all staff receive high-quality initial training, annual education, and ongoing professional development. The ETM will build the training program from the ground up and serve as the subject matter expert for all MEDCOM educational initiatives.  The ETM will also work on developing and overseeing the quality Assurance Program for MEDCOMM. The standard schedule expectation of this role is Monday-Friday 0900-1700 on site in the Medical Communications Department with the ability to flex time and days for nights, weekends, and extended shift lengths as determined necessary to capture all rotations of Staffing to meet the education and training needs of the Team.


 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee training programs for new and existing MEDCOM personnel.
  • Build an orientation/academy for new medcomm new employees for monthly implementation
  • Create curriculum covering subjects such as medical terminology, call-taking protocols, radio/telephone communication, geography, and scenario-based training.
  • Deliver training through classroom instruction, on-the-job coaching, online training modules, and simulation exercises.
  • Conduct mandatory annual training for all communications staff.
  • Establish performance standards, track competencies, and provide remedial training when needed.
  • Maintain compliance with state, national, and organizational training requirements.
  • Monitor and integrate updates to state EMS protocols, regulatory requirements, and level-of-service standards into all MEDCOM training programs to ensure ongoing compliance and operational readiness. 
  • Collaborate with leadership to integrate quality assurance and performance data into training initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary resource and mentor for supervisors and training staff within the medical communications center.
  • Maintain accurate training documentation and records.
  • Develop a quality assurance program, and oversee its implementation.


 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Current EMT certification (minimum requirement).
  • EMD Certification within 90 Days of Hire
  • At least 5 years of experience in an EMS communications/dispatch center.
  • Demonstrated expertise in EMS dispatch operations, medical communications, and emergency call-taking.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create, deliver, and evaluate training curriculum and materials.


Preferred Skills

Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) or equivalent.

Experience with adult education, training program development, or instructional design.

Familiarity with CAD systems, dispatch center technology, and QA/QI processes.

Experience utilizing TraumaSoft or similar EMS operations platforms, including dispatch, reporting, and training modules.

Experience with online training modules.

Prior leadership or supervisory experience.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to engage and motivate learners across diverse skill levels.
