Greenbush – The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Payroll & Business Services Specialist at Geenbush Main Campus - Girard.
Anticipated Start Date: 10/20/2025.
Job Summary: The Payroll & Business Services Specialist plays a key role on the Greenbush External Business Services team, providing payroll and accounting support to school districts and other public agencies. This client-facing position is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll, maintaining compliance with payroll regulations, and assisting with related accounting functions. The ideal candidate will bring strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and a collaborative mindset to deliver reliable business services that districts can trust.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
A valid driver’s license is required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and
payroll/accounting experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new payroll/accounting systems
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management
• Strong customer service orientation and professional demeanor
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and be bon
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field
• Experience in public-sector payroll or school district business services a plus
• Familiarity with Kansas payroll compliance and public finance practices
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
• Process payroll for client districts, including employee pay, deductions, and withholdings
• Ensure accurate submission of payroll taxes and reports
• Reconcile payroll to general ledger and monthly bank statements
• Issue or reissue checks/direct deposits when needed
• Maintain confidentiality and accuracy across all payroll records
• Clearly communicate payroll procedures and updates to client districts
Business Services Support:
• Assist with accounting tasks for client districts as assigned
• Support reconciliation, documentation, and reporting activities
• Provide responsive service and support to district contacts
General Responsibilities:

8. Demonstrate proficiency in ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.
9. Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.
10. Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.
11. Regular and predictive attendance in designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
