Purpose Statement

 

The job of Web Social Media Specialist is done for the purpose/s of assist the Public Information Officer and District Superintendent in the production of marketing materials and online video content to communicate with staff, families, and the community to promote South Kitsap School District.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists a variety of content providers and departments for the purpose of updating, enhancing and/or modifying information within pages of the Internet and/or Intranet site;
  • Communicates both orally and in writing while maintaining confidentiality for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information required to perform job functions;
  • Designs a variety of items (e.g. annual publications, email marketing campaigns, graphics, logos, letterhead, posters, etc.) for the purpose of publishing on social media platforms and/or print;
  • Maintains manual and electronic documents, files, and records (e.g. publication archives, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference materials;
  • Monitors (format, content, maintenance, etc.) and posts on website/s and social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining current and accurate information;
  • Produces video content, graphics, transparencies, and promotional displays for professional presentations, and communication for the purpose of providing up-to-date and accurate district communications;
  • Produces South Kitsap School District ID Badges for the purpose of meeting security, safety and identification goals;
  • Support assigned projects and programs (e.g. event/meeting coordination, and production of materials including providing photography/video support at events, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring quality and timely communication occurs;
  • Supports OCR compliance, editing and publishing content for the purpose of ensuring accessibility and efficient and effective communication.

Other Functions:

  • Backup Support for District Office receptionist as needed for coverage of phone and service to visitors for the purpose of providing optimal customer service;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: using pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; web program scripting (ASP, Perl, PHP, JSP); preparing and maintaining accurate records; and various operating systems; adhering to safety practices and procedures; analyzing data; assembling and/or repairing office and classroom equipment; conducting meetings; diagnosing equipment malfunctions; estimating required resources.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: elements of graphic design and layout; current generation operating systems, server and virtual host management; composition software; concepts of grammar and punctuation; web design, programming and site creation; and LINUX/OSX system administration.; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; current and emerging technology; methods of instruction and training; school safety and security practices.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with persons of varied backgrounds and technical expertise; communicating technical information to non-technical audiences; establishing and maintaining effective relationships; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions; adapting to changing work priorities; available on-call; being available on-call; dealing with

frequent interruptions.

 

Responsibility

 

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions.

 

Work Environment

 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, 15% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations.

 

Experience: Four years of job-related experience is required. Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Applications is required. Advanced knowledge of producing original graphic design projects using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is required. Advanced knowledge of video production and editing is required. Basic photography and camera use is required. Proofreading and copywriting experience is required.

 

Education (Preferred):

 

Education (Minimum): Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area with an emphasis in Ongoing, job-related professional development is required.
