About the Department

The City of Chaska and CPD are seeking a full time Community Service/Code Compliance Officer. This role provides a variety of public safety and municipal services, including animal control, complaint processing, and parking enforcement, while also monitoring law enforcement records and working cross-departmentally to assist with code enforcement and compliance standards for all properties in the City of Chaska.

Candidates will be need to pass a public safety background check.

Position Duties

Serves as a primary source of communication to the public on code compliance issues. 

  • Answers calls for service; responds and follows up to citizen complaints (e.g. animal, parking, garbage, junk/abandoned vehicles)
  • Investigate code compliance concerns and identify possible violations 
  • Issues administrative citations for code violations; resolves disputes; and works with other pertinent departments and property owners to achieve compliance 

Assists with department wide functions and initiatives.

  • Deploy speed trailer in areas of need or request
  • Picks up and delivers evidence to other jurisdictions. 
  • Inventory found bikes and dispose of property consistent with state statute and department policy
  • Participate in community engagement events

Enforces laws and City codes and provides for public safety through observation, investigation, reporting and corrective action.

Provides public services and assists the patrol division as appropriate

  • Traffic or crowd control at traffic accidents, crime scenes, etc.
  • Assists or handles property damage crashes, motorist assists, vehicle lockouts
  • Recovering lost and found property
  • Responds to and investigates dog bite reports.  Follows-up with dog owners as needed
  • Provides emergency medical assistance

Attends and testifies in court, on as needed basis, involving any cases they are working on.

Responds to citizen calls or walk-ins; provides resources and routing.

Maintains police fleet and coordinates repairs.  

Conducts field training for all new community service officers, when assigned.

Knows and follows CPD policies and procedures.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3.5 years' experience in municipal experience
  • Experience in municipal code enforcement preferred.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Good driving record with a valid driver's license
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervisor
  • Meet departmental use of force standards
