ABOUT THE POSITION
Research Attorneys, under general judicial direction, perform legal research, prepare written analyses of motions and matters on calendar for assigned judicial officers, and perform related duties as assigned.
Research Attorneys are prohibited by Court policy from practicing law, receiving fees, and/or appearing in court representing another party as counsel during their employment as a Research Attorney, except if performing non-representational pro bono work that conforms to the Court’s Pro Bono Policy and is pre-approved by management. Other outside employment must be approved in advance.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the time of application:
- Graduation from an accredited school of law
- An active member of the California State Bar in good standing
- Currently employed as a Superior Court of Los Angeles County Law Clerk -AND- received two positive performance evaluations
- Notified in writing by a Managing Research Attorney of eligibility
- Graduation from an accredited school of law
- An active member of the California State Bar in good standing
- Minimum of two years as a Superior Court of Los Angeles County Law Clerk -AND- received two positive performance evaluations

- Three (3) writing samples (e.g., bench memorandum, drafted pleading, legal publication, etc.)
- A copy of the applicant's last performance evaluation issued by the Court
- Judicial and/or other professional reference letters

The ideal candidate will be independent, reliable, adaptable, and possess the following desirable qualifications:
- Strong research capability
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Outstanding organization and time management skills
- Knowledge of Court organization, rules, policies, and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Familiarity with federal and state laws, regulations, and case law applicable to areas of assigned responsibility

The Selection Committee will review completed applications and make selections. Placement will be determined based upon the needs of the Court.
