About the Department

Under general supervision, provides professional, friendly, and knowledgeable introduction to the department and participates in planning for the department.

Shift: Mon – Fri, 8a – 5p, and additional hours as job requires


Position Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.   This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required.  Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Answers and responds to all incoming telephone calls by taking messages, answering questions and directing calls to the appropriate development personal.
  • Assists Engineering Reception by attending to public that need development assistance. Meets with public and answer questions, provides correct paperwork, or takes messages for appropriate development personal
  • Schedule and take notes all meetings for development projects including Pre-Development meetings with other County departments, other agencies, cities, developers, or residents. 
  • Prepares documents, gathers information, and takes notes for Pre-Development Meetings. 
  • Performs clerical duties by typing correspondence, proofreading, filing, and distributing correspondence.
  • Creates invoices for Development Fees and maintains invoice logs. Assist Engineering Reception with depositing monies for development projects. 
  • Assists with creating court order and gathering and preparing backup documents for all development related items for Commissioners’ Court and enters them into the agenda software program.
  • Coordinates with Engineering Reception to ensure development personal have necessary office supplies. 
  • Performs all filing for development project including hard files and electronic filing systems. 
  • Assists with gather information from public for issues related to property boundaries, right-of-way boundaries, and ownership.
  • Assist Development Technician in to compiling all documentation necessary for small subdivisions, property reconfigurations, and statewide platting exceptions including affidavits and Commissioners Court approvals as appropriate.
  • Performs other office duties and backs up other employees as determined by County Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience and Training Guidelines:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred.  


Knowledge of:

  • Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, and designing forms.


Skill in:

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with supervisors, engineering staff, other County departments, elected officials, external public agencies and organizations, contractors, engineers, manufacturers, registered sanitarians, business owners, real estate agents, designers, site evaluators, property owners, civic organizations, and the general public. 
  • Effectively recording minutes for meetings when required.
  • Using initiative, discretion, and decision making within established procedures, guidelines and rules.
  • Providing effective customer service.
  • Operating a personal computer and various software applications.


LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Texas Driver’s License.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed both in an office work environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
