The District Attorney's Office is seeking to hire a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as the Legal Staff Supervisor.  This position oversees a team of legal support staff (to include Legal Assistants, Legal Secretaries, Discovery and the Receptionist) who provide support to attorneys, other members of the office and the general public.   The Legal Staff Supervisor will ensure that daily work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with office policies. The exact structure of the position is evolving and will need to adjust as needed.  This position reports to the Administrative Deputy.  

This is a full-time position, and the work schedule is Monday – Friday 800 am to 5:00 pm.  This position will work at the Boulder County Justice Center, located at 1777 6th Street, Boulder, CO 803020.  Under FLSA guidelines, this position is exempt.  
 
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. The DA’s Office has adopted this policy.

 Hiring Salary Range: $83,844-$110,000 Annually

 Classification Salary Range $83,844-$120,732 Annually 

In addition to the Boulder County benefits, the District Attorney’s Office offers:

  • Work From Home two-days a month (for supervisors), if duties allow, after 6 months of employment with the office
  • An enhanced Extended Parental Leave Policy for up to an additional 12 weeks of parental leave.

Position Duties

Examples of Duties

  • Assigns, directs, and supervises activities of assigned staff ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards; administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, scheduling work hours, granting leave, appraising performance, disciplining, and submitting such records and reports as required by policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a resource or expert in program area; provides technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Enforces established and applicable related policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Organizes schedules, and coordinates work assignments daily to ensure efficient workflow, including assisting other employees in handling workflow when necessary.
  • Schedules and participates in training for newly hired legal support staff
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decreases turnaround times, streamlines work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
  • Develops and implements procedures; sets policies and guidelines for the county court unit, district court unit, discovery and front desk staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, counsels employees concerning performance and recommends personnel actions in the areas of hiring, termination, and discipline.
  • Assists with developing, analyzing, and implementing, through strategic and technical planning, new procedures to improve methods of operation and communication.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with staff regarding enhancements or changes to a myriad of computer programs.
  • Represents assigned area in various meetings inside and outside of the office.
  • Maintains and promotes a professional working relationship with defense counsel, probation officers, pretrial services, Community Corrections, and other criminal justice agencies. Meets with those agencies, as needed, to resolve issues.
  • Schedules and meets with outside law enforcement agencies to resolve any issues that may impede the prosecution of cases.
  • Is part of the Supervisory staff.  
  • May perform all duties of a Legal Assistant I, II, and Senior.
  • Drafts documents for special prosecution cases from other jurisdictions. Oversees special prosecution cases.
  • Works on special projects as needed
  • Is the Liaison for Grand Jury cases.  
  • Performs related work as required.
  • May be assigned in emergency situations.

  EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
 
The District Attorney’s Office is looking for well-qualified candidates to fill our positions.  In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 9 years of combined education and experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.  This can include criminal justice, human services, or related experience and education.
  
DRIVER'S LICENSE:

  • Applicants must have a valid driver's license

  • Possesses excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills, boundaries, ethics, leadership and supervisory skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of professionals and agencies
  • Ability to work effectively with the public, handle stressful situations in a professional manner, and accurately assesses situations and people
  • Excellent computer proficiency to include use of internet search engines, access to government portals and websites, Microsoft suite of applications and databases, and records management systems
