SCHOOL AGE SERVICES - CLUB Y ADVISOR
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general supervision of the Site Director, part-time Club Y Advisors are responsible for directing supervision of and leading children in a structured environment as well as participating in active sports and games with children, monitoring behavior and participating in curriculum activities specific to middle school students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
General Duties:
- Appropriately supervise children and participate in all aspects of the program
- Observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations/emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
- Preparation of daily snack; homework assistance
- Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing environment
- Establishing a positive relationship with all program participants and their families.
- Provide a positive role model within the philosophy of YMCA standards and expectations
- Lead specialty experiences targeted at the interest of Middle School students*:
- Utilize approved curriculums to organize and lead below behaviors
- Utilize project based learning strategies to implement below interest areas
*Art, Active Play & Sport, Music, Teen Leadership, STEM
*For Y-CAP: Social Emotional Learning
*For Achievers: College and Career Readiness
Equipment/Environmental Responsibilities:
- Encourage respect for personal property, program equipment and facility
- Ensure all program areas and equipment are kept clean and safe
Administrative Duties:
- Assist Site Director with sign in/sign out
- Comply with/enforce all DHS licensing requirements
- Provide constant supervision--Be aware of the location of children at all times – do not leave them unsupervised
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Employees will accurately report work time via approved YMCA Clocking Method: Branch Kiosk, YMCA site phone, YMCA iPad or time sheet.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Must be at least 18 years old and pass pre-employment background checks, drug screening, and DHS Fingerprinting
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous work with middle school students preferred but not required
- Must meet minimum Tennessee Department of Human Services requirements
- Willingness to accept/provide supervision and guidance
- Ability to manage childrens’ behavior without physical contact or force
WORK SCHEDULE:
Flexible work schedule required. Work schedules may vary per the needs of specific before and after sites.
Before care is from 6:30 am until the start of school.
After care is from the end of school until 6:30 pm.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping
- Some Exposure to the outdoor elements
- Exposure to electrical/mechanical mechanisms
- Exposure to some chemical elements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
