About the Department

This position assists the Fairgrounds Supervisor in the oversight, training, and support of the maintenance team at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Responsibilities include supervising staff and contracted workers, coordinating internal maintenance and janitorial operations, and supporting Event Holders to ensure the Fairgrounds are safe, operational, and presented at the highest standard. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to instruct and lead staff across multiple building and trade disciplines to ensure seamless operations of all Fairgrounds facilities.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive.) 

  • Direct and support the work of Fairgrounds Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Workers, assigned staff, and contractors in preparing and operating facilities for scheduled events.
  • Provide daily work direction, scheduling, and guidance to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development of subordinate staff.
  • Approve timesheets, coordinate work schedules, and provide coaching and performance feedback.
  • Oversee event preparation, setup, monitoring during events, technical support (AV systems, PA, phones, data), clean-up, and post-event restoration.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections to verify facilities are clean, operational, and event-ready.
  • Collaborate closely with Event Coordinators and Event Holders to provide responsive customer service and protect County assets.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance and janitorial support during the annual Douglas County Fair & Rodeo, including participation in Fair Board and committee meetings as needed.
  • Assist in developing and updating Facilities Safety and Security plans and Emergency Response Procedures.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following applicable codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Serve as acting Fairgrounds Supervisor during absences, including preparation of required reports and operational oversight.
  • Assist in documenting and inventorying maintenance requirements for all operating systems across Fairgrounds facilities.
  • Maintain and update database work orders and equipment maintenance history; conduct regular inspections of critical systems.
  • Oversee inventory control programs to ensure accuracy; purchase parts and supplies within budget guidelines and established procedures.
  • Track facility maintenance expenses, maintain accurate records, and support the administration of contracts and vendor services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support Fairgrounds operations and County objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 
A high school diploma or GED equivalent 
A minimum of five years of commercial building maintenance and repair experience is required. 
Demonstrated or verifiable leadership experience is required. 
Two years supervisory or lead experience preferred. 
A combination of education and experience may be considered.  

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: 
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
