Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Capital Project Team Lead to support the Manufacturing Manager/Capital Project Manager in executing capital projects and improving engineering documentation systems. This role will coordinate technical resources, support construction and commissioning activities, and play a key part in modernizing and maintaining the plant’s drawing and document control systems. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, field coordination experience, and an eye for process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Manufacturing Excellence/Capital Project Manager in planning, budgeting, and executing capital improvement projects
- Develop and successfully execute capital projects across the mill as needed
- Successfully navigate the PDP process for assigned projects
- Coordinate activities between internal stakeholders (operations, maintenance, EHS) and external contractors or suppliers
- Track and report on project milestones, costs, and deliverables using project management tools
- Support field execution of construction, installation, and commissioning tasks
- Review and organize project documentation including P&IDs, electrical drawings, layout plans, and vendor prints
- Assist in preparing RFPs, bid evaluations, and contractor onboarding documentation
- Monitor compliance with safety and environmental regulations throughout project execution
- Maintain overall project planning schedule. Communicate to Manufacturing Excellence/Capital Project Manager on a pre-determined frequency.
- Assist Manufacturing Excellence/Capital Project Manager on spending calendar for all projects
- Lead efforts to improve/establish a sustainable final project documentation system. Support development and implementation of a structured system for capital project close-out, including document turnover, lessons learned, asset tagging, and archiving of as-built records
- Lead efforts to improve the plant’s drawing management system, including updating legacy files, improving access, and ensuring document accuracy and version control
- Document and streamline the training/onboarding process related to current and/or future PDP systems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field)
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- 2–5 years of experience in capital project support or engineering documentation in an industrial environment
- Familiarity with plant systems such as paper machines, utilities, or fiber lines (preferred)
- Experience reading and managing engineering drawings (mechanical, piping, electrical, civil)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Project, and document control systems
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with high attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience improving drawing/documentation systems or implementing electronic drawing databases
- Familiarity with capital approval and project lifecycle processes
- Knowledge of document control systems and/or software
- Experience in the pulp and paper, packaging, or heavy manufacturing industry
- Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies
