Job Description:

We are seeking a QA Engineer to join our Software Platform team in our office in Leuven. In this role, you’ll be part of our Research & Development department, reporting directly to the Technology Manager, QA SW/AI Software & AI.

You’ll work in a cross-functional, agile team of QA, software developers, system engineers, electrical engineers, and UX designers, driving the software and machine integration lifecycle for TOMRA’s cutting-edge food sorting machines. You’ll also collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including pre-sales, service, and engineering teams.

We are looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of making sure every part of a complex machine works together as intended. You’ll be responsible for verifying that all system integrations, spanning PLC, machine vision, sensors, firmware, software, and peripherals, align with the machine design specifications. A background in system integration testing will be valuable, and the ability to quickly understand and navigate complex system architectures is essential.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build a deep understanding of sorter mechanical and optical systems to conduct system integration and software testing.
  • Proactively identify and resolve integration issues.
  • Develop and implement quality deliverables: exploratory and performance testing, test specifications, reports, and user documentation.
  • Identify edge test cases, execute tests rigorously, and document results with precision.
  • Analyse and communicate test outcomes clearly and objectively to stakeholders.
  • Design, improve, and maintain software QA processes.
  • Perform statistical analysis to support findings.
  • Participate in technical meetings for requirement refinement and contribute to specification quality.
  • Gain hands-on experience with industrial-scale machinery.
Qualifications:

About You:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in system integration and functional testing for industrial equipment.
  • Solid knowledge of networking and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with git.
  • Proficiency in Python and shell scripting (PowerShell, Bash).
  • Strong communication skills: able to present findings, document requirements, and report issues effectively.
  • Analytical, structured, and proactive problem solver.
  • Hands-on, engaged, and comfortable working onsite.
  • Willing to travel when required.

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) and writing features files.
  • Experience with product lifecycle systems such as Azure Devops.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies (Lean development).
