We are seeking a 5-Axis CNC Programmer + Machinist to program and operate our LSAM (Large Scale Additive Manufacturing) machine & FlexCNC. This role is hands-on, highly technical, and integral to the success of our cutting-edge additive and subtractive manufacturing capabilities.
This is a full-time, hourly role (Monday–Friday) with overtime available as needed. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, problem-solving environment, demonstrates strong organizational skills, and brings a blend of programming expertise, machine operation experience, and creative thinking.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS may include but are not limited to:
- Program and operate the Thermwood LSAM 3D printer and 5-axis router (print and cut functions).
- Create and optimize toolpaths using Mastercam (modeling + programming).
- Run Vericut simulations to validate toolpaths, fixturing, and crash detection.
- Design and manufacture custom fixtures, jigs, and tooling for machining low-volume, prototype, and production parts.
- Apply DFAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing) principles to ensure parts are efficient, manufacturable, and accurate.
- Manage setup and operation of LSAM 3D printer.
- Perform machine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting to keep equipment in optimal condition.
- Maintain and track material and tooling inventory (PETG, ABS, and other thermoplastics for print side).
- Interpret blueprints and CAD models, making design adjustments when needed for manufacturability.
- Train & utilize backup operators of LSAM & FlexCNC as necessary
- Assist the Estimating Department by reviewing hours and providing value-engineering (VE) options.
- Operate gantry systems when necessary
- Safely handle large workpieces and raw stock, including forklift operation when necessary.
- Uphold lean practices and ensure machines and workstations are kept clean and organized.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Extensive Mastercam experience (programming + modeling).
- Strong background in 5-axis CNC programming and operation (minimum 5 years).
- Proficiency with Vericut for toolpath verification.
- Deep knowledge of tooling, fixturing, and machining methods.
- Experience working with a variety of materials (aluminum, steel, acrylic, thermoplastics such as PETG, ABS, etc.).
- Strong understanding of tolerances and precision machining.
- Ability to engineer creative machining and fixturing solutions.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Rhino3D a plus).
- Strong organizational skills — must be able to keep machines, inventory, and workflows highly structured.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Collaborative team player with a proactive, self-starting mindset.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of experience setting up and operating 4 and 5-Axis CNC Machines
- Proven experience in Mastercam programming is required
- Experience with additive manufacturing/3D printing preferred
- Ability to work with Solid Works and in Rhino3D preferred
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain

This is an hourly (non-exempt) position.
