Overview
QED Technologies is seeking a visionary, hands-on IT Manager to lead day-to-day IT operations and drive the next stage of our modernization. You will set and execute a clear vision for the IT function, act as a change agent across the business, and build a high-performing team that delivers secure, reliable services to our global workforce in the US, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and China. The ideal candidate combines deep technical roots—having grown through roles such as help desk, systems engineer/admin, and network engineer/admin - with proven experience managing IT engineers and steering complex change (cloud, automation, security, and governance) at multi-site scale.
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- Publish and begin executing a 24-month IT strategy and roadmap aligned to business objectives, with clear KPIs and budget.
- Establish an operating model (incident, request, change, problem) with SLAs and dashboards; reduce MTTR and backlog.
- Drive modernization initiatives (e.g., cloud migration, identity hardening, zero trust, endpoint automation).
- Finish standing up a robust IT policy, procedure, and standards library; embed documentation discipline across the team.
- Complete our NIST 800-171 / CMMC project, including successful internal/external audits.
- Build, coach, and organize an IT engineering team that scales support for a global, multi-site environment.
Key Responsibilities
Vision, Strategy & Change Leadership
- Work with the Director of IT to define and evangelize a multi-year IT vision and roadmap tightly aligned with business strategy.
- Own portfolio planning and prioritization; develop business cases and budgets for key initiatives.
- Lead organizational change management: communications, stakeholder alignment, and training.
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Provide architectural direction across identity (AD/Entra AD), endpoint management, collaboration (Microsoft 365), networking (LAN/WAN/VPN), servers/virtualization, backup/DR, and public cloud (Azure).
- Leverage automation (e.g., PowerShell) to improve consistency, security, and speed of delivery.
- Remain close to the work; remove technical blockers and mentor engineers through complex issues.
Service Delivery & Operations
- Own help desk and field support for a global, multi-site user base; maintain SLAs and customer satisfaction.
- Implement and mature ITIL-lite processes (incident, request, change, problem) and asset/configuration management.
- Continuously improve reliability, performance, and cost through metrics-driven operations.
Security, Compliance & Governance
- Operate within regulated-industry controls; champion policy, procedure, and documentation discipline.
- Lead audits, risk assessments, and remediation plans aligned to CISA SCuBA, NIST 800-171 and CMMC requirements.
- Implement zero-trust, EDR, vulnerability management, and backup/DR testing.
People Leadership
- Hire, develop, and performance-manage a team of IT engineers (direct employees and managed service partners).
- Foster a culture of ownership, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Plan on-call coverage, capacity, and skill development to meet evolving business needs.
Vendors, Budget & Procurement
- Own the IT budget; optimize TCO and lifecycle management for software, hardware, and services.
- Select and manage vendors/partners; negotiate contracts and SOWs with clear deliverables and KPIs.
Projects and M&A Integration
- Lead cross-functional projects from initiation through adoption; provide timelines, risks, and status.
- Support M&A due diligence and integration activities when applicable.
