JOB SUMMARY:
The position of Central Sterile Supervisor acts as the liaison between the Central Sterile staff and the medical and clinical staff to ensure that the facility maintains adequate and timely availability of resources for medical and surgical support. Oversees the daily activities of the Central Sterile Team within all of OSS Health (including hospital, ASC, Pain Center and satellite offices).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required
Experience:
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required.
- At least 1-2 years of leadership experience required.
- Previous work experience in a PeriOperative area required.
- Previous experience in hospital/outpatient central sterile preferred.
- Computer proficiency which includes word processing and spreadsheets required.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written are required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the day-to-day activity of the Central Sterile Team. Plan staff assignments to assure adequate coverage and the proper mix of staff.
- Review with central sterile staff the following-days schedule to ensure that all instruments are available for usage.
- Assess any changes, delays, or cancellations in the daily schedule, working in conjunction with the OR surgery schedulers and leadership/teams in all areas.
- Ensure that all cases are picked and in accordance with physician preference cards, working in conjunction with nursing staff and central sterile staff.
- Assist with any mass changes to the physician preference cards to confirm items being charged/inventoried are correct, working in conjunction with Materials Management.
- Oversee and assist in correct cleaning, assembly and sterilization of instrument sets. Functions as Central Sterile Tech as needed.
- Ensure proper operation of sterilizer units prior to use on a daily basis.
- Ensure instruments are processed and redistributed as needed.
- Avoid delays and provide maximum efficiency by being aware of scheduled times.
- Assist with physician needs.
- Promote open communication within the hospital to foster a positive, cohesive work environment.
- Interpret hospital policies and procedures. Provide leadership and direction in accordance with these policies and procedures.
- Foster professional growth and development of central sterile staff.
- Manages interviewing staff for the Central Sterile area and with the completion of performance evaluations for assigned staff.
- Serve as a resource in areas of expertise to other staff.
- Foster effective public relations for the hospital.
- Communicate to Leadership any pertinent events or issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversight of personnel in the Central Sterile area on a daily basis. Reports to the VP of Surgical Services and works in collaboration with OR Leadership.
