The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) is seeking a Network Infrastructure Architect for the Information Services Department. This position plays a crucial role to the digital operations of EWEB and will design, build, and maintain EWEB’s enterprise and SCADA network infrastructure.  In addition, the Network Infrastructure Architect is a technical leader and will provide technical and functional oversight about network infrastructure.

Success in this position will require advanced knowledge of network protocols, network architecture designs, network hardware and software, the ability to align network services to business needs, and strong communication skills. The Network Infrastructure Architect will need to collaborate with technical staff and business stakeholders to evaluate current systems, identify and optimize inefficiencies, develop proposals, and implement solutions to meet business needs. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage network systems including routers, switches, datacenter systems, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, and cloud services.
  • Develop detailed network designs and implementation plans to meet project requirements, accommodate network growth, improve resilience, and improve security. Must be able to identify impact of design decisions to stakeholders, security, operations, and budget.
  • Collaborate with other Infrastructure Architects to develop end-to-end technical solutions to fulfill current and forecast business needs.
  • Provide both technical and functional oversight to staff by developing prescribed procedures, methods, formats, and training in technical areas where the incumbent is a subject matter expert.
  • Ability to complete technical projects from initiation through closure. Must be able to manage project scope, timelines, and resources.
  • Recommend enhancements to network for quality, reliability, and security.
  • Work with business units and analysts to determine hardware and software requirements and to map requirements to current and future technology capabilities.

What You’ll Bring

  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP, ethernet, spanning-tree, HSRP, VPC, OSPF, and BGP.
  • Established experience to troubleshoot and resolve impactful network problems, optimize network performance, and maintain network services.
  • Technical leadership with the ability guide and grow other technical network administrators.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical information effectively to a variety of audiences. Ability to communicate to audiences verbally, in writing, in diagrams, and in presentations.
  • A thirst for knowledge and growth opportunities.
  • Prefer experience with Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS, Paloalto PANOS, Red Hat Linux, Microsoft Windows, and VMWare ESXi.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting annual salary range for this position, based on level, commensurate with knowledge, skills, and education as they relate to the position is: $114,463.43 to $143,079.29.

Telecommuting:

This position is based in Eugene, Oregon, and has been approved as a hybrid work arrangement involving a combination of telecommuting and working on-site. The selected candidate must live in the state of Oregon.

Minimum Training and Experience Required

Minimum Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure, local area networks, server administration, and network hardware. Experience must include one or more of the following areas:

  • TCP/IP
  • Routing/Switching
  • Firewalls
  • Wireless
  • Virtualization

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology or related field with technical courses in Networks and other IT infrastructure, server and personal computer hardware, operating system software or other applicable technical education.

Recommended Vendor Experience or certifications: Cisco, Microsoft, Palo Alto, Red Hat and VMWare.

Equivalency: EWEB will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience when reviewing applications. Candidates who do not meet all of the minimum qualifications but whose application materials demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in the position are encouraged to apply.
