Position:           Production Team Lead

Job Overview:

The Team Lead role supports the Production Supervisor and oversees the day-to-day operation of designated production rooms within Central Kitchen. With the support of the Production Supervisor and working in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, to improve operations, ensure consistent quality product is provided. This role will direct daily production activities for designated teams to complete required tasks for production. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance to food safety and health and safety standards. The role works closely with the Production Supervisor to provide leadership in the use of production and manufacturing tools as we strive to improve efficiency and service to our stores & partners.

Accountabilities:

Leadership and People Management

  • Upholding and modelling the company’s values of Honesty, Trustworthiness, Mutual Respect, and Voglia in all actions and behaviours
  • Training, motivating and developing Team Members in the production room by providing production oversight and direction to achieve the daily production targets
  • Ensures that Team Members understand and comply with company standards, policies and procedures including health and safety, loss prevention, food safety and human resources policies i.e., Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy
  • Coaches and trains Team Members to maintain the highest level of personal and team productivity by sharing targets, setting expectations and identifying and correcting bottlenecks
  • Assists the Production Manager with consistent communication to all Team Members and support in Central Kitchen objectives and operations

 

Production Management

  • Works closely with Production Manager to optimize production efficiency, cost and shrink reduction, inventory turns and ingredient use
  • Leads operations in support of food preparation for store orders ensuring quality and labour standards are met and responsible for store communication if supply is disrupted
  • Coaches Team Members to achieve labour standards and productivity expectations
  • Provides Continuous Improvement leadership and facilitation and provides guidance, support and direction for daily operations

 

Planning and Scheduling

  • Ensures daily production plans are optimized, reacts as needed to changing production demands within the day, is optimized and adjusts according to demand, trends, seasons, promotions and holidays
  • Looks for opportunities to increase productivity in order to achieve labour standards
  • Assists in plans for special promotions, holidays and events and works with all cross functional Teams and Team Members to achieve a smooth execution

 

Food Safety and Equipment Maintenance

  • Follows up on all matters related to sanitation, food safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and overall housekeeping
  • Follows up on all matters related to preventative maintenance
  • Helps create and follows up on all SOPs as well as already established policies
  • Follows up on recipe program (ChefTec) paperwork and processes to reduce risk and product recalls and provides feedback on system accuracy where necessary
  • Supports all quality and food safety related issues and collaborates with the Food Safety and Quality Assurance team on strategy and problem solving

 

Customer Service

  • Ensures positive customer service relations with a variety of internal customers such as: Department Managers, DC/ Warehouse Manager and Supervisors, head office departments, external vendors and partners and government regulators
  • Responds and resolves problems arising in customer orders and/or delivery

 

Health and Safety

  • Promotes and endorses the Safety Vision “Safety is our way of life” by role modeling the importance of healthy and safety, calling out and addressing safety concerns and issues
  • Observes and supports Longo’s Safe Work guidelines and other safe work practices
  • Recognizes risks which may pose a danger to Team Members and customers and resolves such issues (where possible) or modifies work, minimizing the risk to Team Member/customer until resolution can be sourced and implemented
  • Ensures all pre-use checks (where applicable) are conducted and all equipment is maintained to provide for safe operation by Team Members
  • Ensures that TMs are trained to work safely and ensures that all work is safely carried out by Team Members
  • Supports Team Members regularly logging onto Axonify and ensures all onboarding and training is completed prior to first shift

 

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years experience in food production
  • Hands-on knowledge of kitchen equipment and standard recipes
  • General understanding of the grocery and prepared foods industries
  • Successful completion of Food Safety certification course (offered by Longo’s)
  • Successful completion of JHSC training Level 1 and 2 (offered by Longo’s)
  • Computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Suite, Excel, Work and PowerPoint
