Job Title: Accountant
Work Schedule and/or FTE: 1.0 260/261 duty days
Bargaining Unit: Individual Contract
Salary Range: $85,000-$100,000/year, depending on experience
Job Summary
The Accountant supports the financial operations of the school district by maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with federal, state (including Minnesota Department of Education [MDE] requirements), and local regulations, and providing timely financial information to administration and the school board. This role plays a key part in ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability for district resources.

Essential Job Functions - Prepare, review, and reconcile monthly financial statements, bank accounts, and general ledger accounts.
- Monitor district revenues, expenditures, and budget compliance.
- Assist with staffing inquiries as it relates to budget expenditures.
- Assist with the development, monitoring, and revision of annual budgets.
- Prepare and submit required state and federal reports, including UFARS (Uniform Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards).
- Ensure compliance with Minnesota state statutes, UFARS coding, and GASB standards.
- Support annual audits by preparing workpapers, schedules, and responding to auditor requests.
- Advises the Business Manager on budget administration.
- Maintain accurate records for grants, federal and state programs, and other restricted funds.
- Process and monitor accounts payable, receivable, and payroll journal entries as assigned.
- Assist in managing cash flow and investments per district policy.
- Provide financial data and analysis to support school board reports and administrative decision-making.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and personnel information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of professional accounting experience.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with administrators, staff, board members, and community stakeholder
Skills - Proficiency with student information systems (e.g., Infinite Campus)
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Ability to audit, identify, and resolve data inconsistencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to interpret and apply Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) guidelines
- Capacity to manage confidential data responsibly
