The Opportunity:

Make your mark while you grow your career! Are you a safety conscious Process Engineer with a passion to work in an operating environment? Canadian Natural is looking for you! As a Process Engineer, you will be responsible for providing support to the Production and Process Engineering teams to ensure successful and continuous operations at our Albian Oil Sands plant. You will have the unique opportunity to work with different teams within the operating environment to ensure production and regulatory reporting requirements are met.

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta - Albian Oil Sands site
  • Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 12-hour shift
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:

  • Proactive monitoring and troubleshooting of plant performance to meet daily production targets, achieve product quality specifications and comply with regulatory requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement in alarm management, working closely with the Plant Operation and Automation teams
  • Provide operational guidelines to Plant Operators to maximize plant performance, manage equipment operational issues, execute equipment and process test plans, as well as manage process risks associated with abnormal process situations or upsets
  • Report daily official production and key plant performance indicators
  • Support the Operations team for review of operating procedures and equipment isolation plans
  • Identify and lead initiatives to improve plant and equipment performance using Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodology
  • Follow Canadian Natural’s Management of Change (MoC) process to champion process changes required to improve plant production, reliability and process safety

What You Bring to the Role: 

  • 3+ years of related oil sands experience in process, production or plant engineering
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Chemical or Mineral Processing Engineering
  • Registered E.I.T or P.Eng with APEGA (or eligibility to register)
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience in programming in Python is considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to audience with varied levels of technical backgrounds
  • Proven track record in problem solving and creative thinking, strong verbal and written communication skills
