Job Purpose

This is a part time position that supports the Seawell ballroom technical teams and technical systems in the Seawell Ballroom and the Directors Room at the DCPA. This position will encompass entry level people as well as seasoned veterans. Basic to expert level experience will be considered for this position. This position will support all the AV disciplines including Audio, Video, Lighting, Rigging, Décor, and minor room set ups for all virtual, hybrid or live events. Candidates for this position must be able to interpret CAD drawings And BEO’s to assist in bringing the client’s vision to life with support from the AV team and managers. Applicants for this position must be self-starters and self-motivated but still work well in a collaborative environment. This individual works with event managers, technical teams, and occasion client interaction.


Duties and Responsibilities

Events Technician (part Time)

  • Must have real world experience with theatrical, event, and entertainment setups.
  • Must be able to read drawings and analyze the needs of each unique event.
  • Works with the events team to conceptualize and bring to life unique events in our event spaces.
  • Able to complete basic lighting, power distribution, DMX, and network patching.
  • Experience in simple audio setups required. Advanced/complex setup experience preferred. (Mixing, monitors, consoles, backline, and microphones)
  • Understanding of basic video setups. Advanced/Complex video setup experience preferred. (Ross Carbonite, PTZ cams, signal paths and basic troubleshooting)
  • The ability to run any of our lighting, audio, or video consoles is desirable. (Grand MA3, Ross Carbonite, and DigiCo SD 12)
  • Understanding basic and advanced arena and theatrical style rigging. Rigging safety and best practices are very important to us. Must know basic knots (bowline, clove hitch, and sheet bend)
  • Use of a scissor lift and forklift is not mandatory but desirable and training will be provided. Occasional PPE (fall Protection / fall restraint may be required).
  • Meeting with Event Managers and Technical Teams occasionally is critical to the success of our events and is part of this job. We value teamwork and collaboration in all aspects of our job. 
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • In the event of a crisis, emergency or fire alarm, there are systems in place for these situations training will be provided.
  • This position requires extensive knowledge of production and audiovisual terminology as it applies to staging, sound needs, lighting, video, rigging, screen ratios.

Operations/Logistics 

  • Must Be able to translate, read, and execute Event Timeline, Banquet Event Orders and Event Drawings/Floorplans. 
  • Conscientious of DCPA operation practices and procedures to protect DCPA facilities, assets, and equipment. 
  • Must have good time management skills and be a self-starter as sometimes we have very limited time to set an event.
  • Computer skills and networking skills are important.
  • Must have the ability to work at heights 30’ and able to lift, push or drag 70 lbs. Some of our spaces are very tight and can be claustrophobic.
  • Occasional use of a forklift, scissor lift, powered pallet jack as noted above training will be provided.
  • A basic understanding of the operation of all common power tools (wrenches, drills, rope, etc.).
  • Must be able to tie the following knots bowline, clove hitch, and sheet bend.
  • All our crew is cross trained, so basic knowledge of rigging, audio, video, and draping/décor is very helpful. Everybody helps in all areas.
  • Problem solving is a big part of this job so being able to solve a problem quickly and efficiently.  Point to point problem solving is important.
  • This position requires knowledge of production and audiovisual terminology as it applies to staging, sound needs, lighting, video, rigging.

Administrative 

  • ETCP or CTS certifications are very desirable.


Relationships

Foster and build client relationships. Must be able to collaborate in a team setting and help develop effective and engaging events that achieve client goals within set budget.


Qualifications

  • A minimum of one year of working experience in event setup and A/V technology. We seek dynamic, motivated individuals with excellent communication (written, verbal) and interpersonal skills. 
  • Exceptional customer service.
  • An ability to work a flexible schedule is needed, including nights and weekends. This position requires self-motivation and organizational skills.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a professional AV booth and event space environments during regular business hours in addition to some nights and weekends.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear clearly, and consistently communicate over email and in person throughout scheduled shift. In addition to spending long/extended periods in motion, the employee frequently is required to move around the booth and work environment, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This individual can work at heights of 30’ and in some tight quarters.  


Physical Requirements Compensation

$25.00 - $28.00 hourly
