Job Overview

The Training & Field Safety Specialist plays a key role in building a strong, skilled workforce by delivering hands-on training, onboarding, and skills assessments for ArborWorks’ field employees. This role focuses primarily on the training and development of new and existing crew members, ensuring they are properly equipped with the technical skills and safe work practices required in the vegetation management industry.

While the primary responsibility is training and field skill development, this role also provides supplemental support to the Safety Department when needed. The Field Trainer & Safety Support Specialist works closely with Operations and Safety teams but remains focused on field skill readiness, onboarding assessments, and employee development to support safe, efficient, and compliant work practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead onboarding and in-field training for new hires, including technical skill assessments (chainsaw usage, tree climbing, rigging, trimming, and related tasks).
  • Conduct ongoing refresher training and skills evaluations for existing employees to ensure proficiency in field operations.
  • Partner with field supervisors to identify training needs and develop tailored coaching plans for crews.
  • Observe work practices in the field, providing constructive feedback and coaching to improve safety, efficiency, and technical competency.
  • Support implementation of ArborWorks’ safety and operational standards during training activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee training progress, certifications, and skills assessments.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Department as needed to reinforce company safety programs, policies, and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote ArborWorks’ culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous learning.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of vegetation management industry experience, with demonstrated proficiency in core field skills (chainsaw use, rigging, climbing, trimming).
  • Prior experience as a Qualified Line Clearance Tree Trimmer or Foreperson preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills, with the ability to teach and motivate employees in hands-on settings.
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License and ability to meet company vehicle operation requirements.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Proficiency in using digital tools (apps, smartphones, tablets, computers) for documentation and communication.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to multiple job sites within ArborWorks’ service territory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • ISA Certification (Certified Arborist or related credential).
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A or B.
