Location: Detroit - Hybrid

Annual Compensation: $50,000


POSITION SUMMARY


Under the supervision of the Strategic Initiatives Director, the Campaign Assistant provides full-time administrative and project support to the Strategic Initiatives Director for the planning, organization, and implementation of current ballot initiative campaigns, Michiganders for Money Out of Politics and Invest in MI Kids. The Campaign Assistant will be responsible for supporting the research and information needs of the Campaign as well as providing data support, training, and supporting coalition coordination.

Position Details and Responsibilities:


Administrative Support

  • Gathers, screens and relays sensitive information received from coalition partners, staff, and member-leaders and visitors; prioritizes and responds to inquiries for the Strategic Initiatives Director.
  • Sorts, reviews, and directs Strategic Initiatives Director’s email including drafting responses and maintaining logs to track delegated matters.
  • Interprets and summarizes materials in order to keep the Executive informed of pertinent events and information.
  • Maintains the Strategic Initiatives Director’s calendar to ensure time is effectively scheduled.
  • Manages invitations, organization of meetings, and meeting materials
  • Executes follow up tasks from appointments and meetings
  • Attends meetings with and for the Strategic Initiatives Director in order to acquire and disseminate information.
  • Performs other duties normally associated with an assistant in order to ensure the completion of necessary work.


Data

  • Data entry: updating and maintaining databases, ensuring accuracy
  • Analyzing data and metrics, generate reports, and provide actionable insights and recommendations for campaign optimization


Coalition & Special Project Coordination

  • When the Strategic Initiatives Director is not in person, assist with in-person support, prepare meeting materials and other requests
  • Assist on special projects under the direction of the Strategic Initiatives Director 
  • Summarize, analyze, and track progress of projects and initiatives
  • Ensure responsibilities and expectations are clear for events, and that all day-of roles are assigned


Campaign Support

  • Provide training to coalition partners, staff, and the public
  • Assisting with MUA’s participation at demonstrations, events, and actions
  • Petition distribution and collection at the Detroit office, tech town, and across the state
  • Assist Strategic Initiatives Director to develop and maintain an accurate report of campaign progress to date and draft briefing materials
  • Provide support to staff and members to assist in meeting campaign goals
  • Minimum of 5 hours of signature collection each week

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years experience in political campaigns, community organizing, or related fields.
  • Preferred: experience working on a successful ballot initiative campaign
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in using campaign management software, voter databases, and digital tools such as VAN, Mobilize, EveryAction, Google Suite, etc.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Experience managing campaign and program budgets 
  • Experience working with state-level progressive coalitions and coordinated tables 
  • Issue advocacy or electoral experience engaging communities of color, ethnic minorities, or language minorities
  • Experience working remotely with other team members
  • Track record of building trust and clear lines of communication with a variety of audiences, including partners and elected officials 
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain flexible and adaptable as needs and priorities change; experience delivering quality results under multiple deadlines
  • Proven ability to work independently while functioning as part of a team
  • Access to reliable transportation

Job Classification: Exempt, Full-Time, Temporary Employee (6 months, with possibility to extend)

Job Length: At-will 

Compensation: $50,000

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Primarily Weekdays with Some Evenings / Weekends. 

Location: Hybrid: On-site & Virtual
