JOB SUMMARY

The Greenhouse Supervisor supports the Greenhouse Manager in overseeing the daily operations of greenhouse facilities, ensuring optimal plant health, productivity, and safety. This role is responsible for supervising staff, coordinating planting and delivery schedules, monitoring climate control systems, and maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the greenhouse. The supervisor ensures all tasks are carried out according to established protocols and works closely with the staff and manager to meet production targets and quality standards. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of greenhouse growing operations.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor plant heath, growth, and development, promptly reporting issues to manager in relation to pests, diseases, or nutrient & watering deficiencies.
  • Oversee and support greenhouse staff. Duties included, but are not limited to; assigning tasks with appropriate time management, providing training, ensuring compliance with safety procedures, maintaining consistent work quality among staff, and aiding in supervision to greenhouse volunteers.
  • Perform all aspects of propagation including seeds, cuttings, and plugs, under the supervision of the Greenhouse Manager. Responsibilities also include documentation, record-keeping, accurate inventory, and proper labeling of all plant material throughout production.
  • Implement fertilization schedules and prepare related documentation under the supervision of the Greenhouse Manager. Ensure all chemical safety procedures within the greenhouse are followed and up to standard.
  • Knowledgeable in greenhouse water system operations, including irrigation, wet walls, and the ability to detect and address PVC piping issues for these systems.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness, reporting discrepancies in a timely manner with routine inspections of equipment and greenhouse systems.
  • Responsible for organizing and loading material systematically based on a detailed loading list to be delivered to DABS.
  • Assist Greenhouse and Research Manager within overseeing plantings, labeling, seasonal records, and following highly specific loading instructions to ensure items are placed in the correct sequence for delivery for the Trials Garden.
  • Responsible for securing all equipment at the end of the day and notifying supervisor of any supply needs for staff.
  • Ability to drive a box truck to multiple locations for work duties.
  • Work on special projects for large garden displays, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to apply pesticides and chemicals with training provided; obtain and maintain Texas pesticide license. 
  • Lifting of up to 30 pounds when necessary repetitively bend/stoop, move across property and work in all weather conditions and follow approved safety guidelines
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills (working knowledge of Excel, MS Office, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks through use of effective organizational and time-management skills. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends holidays
  • Driver’s license to operate garden vehicles.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture preferred; equivalent experience in greenhouse operations and team leadership may be considered.
