As a WNTO State & Local Tax (SALT) Technical Guidance Manager, you’ll support the tracking and review of SALT technical developments, including new legislation, regulations, and court decisions, and help translate these updates into actionable insights that engagement teams can use to address client issues, identify planning opportunities, and deliver tailored solutions aligned with evolving SALT requirements. You’ll collaborate with senior team members and contribute to internal and external communications on SALT matters. You’ll also provide technical support to client-facing teams, helping them navigate complex SALT issues and apply guidance on significant client engagements.
From day one, you’ll be supported by great technology—including Microsoft Copilot—and a collaborative team to help you grow your technical knowledge, contribute to impactful projects, and deliver excellent client service.
Your day-to-day may include:
- Assisting in the drafting of Firm-branded thought leadership materials such as SALT alerts and articles
- Supporting the preparation of presentations and materials for Firm-wide and external forums on SALT topics
- Helping identify service opportunities based on recent SALT developments
- Collaborating with other specialty groups to understand intersections with corporate, transfer pricing, and partnership tax issues
- Maintaining and updating SALT tools used across the Firm to support client service delivery
- Providing technical support to engagement teams by researching, interpreting, and applying SALT guidance to client-specific scenarios
- Responding to technical questions from practice teams and assisting with client deliverables that require SALT expertise
- Leveraging AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to streamline research, drafting, and analysis tasks
- Working closely with the Marketing team to produce external content and enhance the Firm’s SALT branding and visibility
- Performing research and analysis on SALT topics under the guidance of senior team members and staying updated on industry trends and legislative changes
- Other duties as assigned
You have the following technical skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
- CPA or JD required; LLM in Taxation preferred
- Four to six years of SALT consulting experience at a major public accounting or law firm, with a preference for candidates with some experience at a National Tax Office and/or IRS National office
- Demonstrated success in tax technical work
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet preparation and interpretation
- Ability to work with national tax office team, and SALT experts within practice offices, in a highly interactive team environment
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
The base salary range for this position in the firms District of Columbia office only is between $146,900 to $220,300
The base salary range for this position in the firms New York-Manhattan office only is between $146,900 to $220,300
The base salary range for this position in the firms Chicago IL office only is between $136,000 to $204,000.
