About the Department

The Durango Public Library is a place where information abounds, ideas flow, and imagination thrives. We believe that libraries are essential for a healthy, vibrant community—and we’re looking for a Facilities Maintenance Technician to help keep ours at its best. In this role, you’ll support the Library Facility Maintenance Supervisor and take on a variety of building and maintenance duties. Your work will keep the library safe, clean, and fully functional so that everyone in our community can enjoy it.

Position Duties
Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and irrigation equipment. Ensure the overall cleanliness and functionality of the library facility through painting, cleaning, groundskeeping, and managing inventory of supplies. Clean and dust offices, vacuum floors, and wash windows. Maintain the library grounds through landscaping tasks, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and pest control. Perform minor repairs and carpentry work on furniture and facilities. Interact with patrons in a friendly manner. Set up meeting room arrangements according to customer needs. Assist in the coordination of building activities and schedules in the absence of the Library Facility Maintenance Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED equivalent. One to two years of experience in building and grounds maintenance.
Are skilled in building trades and comfortable using tools, materials, and safety practices to maintain and repair facilities. Have basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and landscaping tasks, and can operate the necessary equipment. Take pride in keeping spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for patrons and the community. Follow instructions, safety protocols, and operational procedures accurately.
