Position Duties

The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.

  • Report to work at assigned time.
  • Set-up all required and necessary equipment in order to get program started on time.
  • Ensure a safe playing/program area by inspecting facility and equipment prior to competition, activity or event.
  • Ensure all additional staff such as scorekeepers, officials and volunteers are on time and ready to complete assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate with coaches, officials, and other staff to get games, activities and events started and ended as scheduled.
  • Act as the main point of contact and source of information for parents, spectators, players, facility users and officials.
  • Distribution and collection of program surveys.
  • Completely fill out and submit in a timely manner all incident/accident reports.
  • Provide the proper clean up after all games, programs and events have taken place.
  • Fill out and submit as scheduled an accurate time card for hours worked.
  • Monitor the facilities and hallways around recreation facilities to ensure proper behavior from all user groups, participants and visitors.
  • Ensure all participants, spectators, players, coaches, and captains conduct themselves properly and within the standards of the Durango Parks and Recreation philosophy. Document any behavior or acts deemed inappropriate, notifying supervisor or police when necessary.

Other Duties:
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • Operations, services, and activities of a City Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Appropriate techniques for dealing with conflict resolution and disputes.
Ability to:
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain mental capacity that allows the capability of effectively interacting and communicating with others.
Work Environment:
Indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, irregular work hours and weekends; may work in or around water and slippery surfaces as well as extremely hot or cold environments. Periods of mobility with light and heavy physical activity.

Physical Activities:
  • Ability to effectively interact with other individuals.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, reach, carry, grasp and turn objects;
  • Ability to climb stairs; and stand, sit and walk for up to 60 minutes at a time;
  • Acceptable eyesight to read printed material and a computer monitor and to operate office equipment;
  • Acceptable hearing to communicate with others in person or through telephonic means;
  • Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others via the phone, at meetings and to greet and assist visitors.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education and Certification: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. CPR/First Aide/AED certified or the ability to get certified. 
Minimum Experience: Prefer general knowledge of the sports to be overseen well as experience in working with the public.
