About the Department

The Outdoor Rink Attendant monitors park warming buildings for the outdoor ice rink season. Outdoor Rink Attendants assist with building clean up and occasional snow removal while ensuring the facility is safe and secure for ice rink and park users. The typical ice rink season runs late December through early February.

Position Duties

  • Open and close warming facilities as scheduled and on time
  • Monitor warming facility and skating rinks to ensure that all users are following rules and policies
  • Provide light cleaning of warming facility at the conclusion of each shift and as needed during shift
  • Greet ice rink users in a friendly manner and provide a friendly welcoming presence 
  • Assist with snow removal from sidewalks, patios, and rinks as needed
  • Assist building renters with event set up/clean up as needed
  • Utilize tools that could include brooms, mops, vacuums, shovels, water hoses, skates
  • Complete incident reports, attendance reports, and communicates with supervisor
  • Continually shows respect for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and interests. Exhibits sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences in all duties performed on behalf of the City to support Roseville in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment and community. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Is able to communicate orally and in writing and understands, follows, and transmits written and oral instructions.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the general public.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings
  • Ability to interact with park patrons in a friendly, courteous manner

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of the job.   Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Most work is performed in a park facility or outside on or near the ice rink. There is exposure to a multitude of elements including snow, ice, slippery or wet surfaces. Occasionally the job may involve working with and calming individuals who are emotionally charged over an issue. The position requires availability on evenings and weekends. 

Limited lifting of 20 pounds or less is required less than 10% of the time. 

The Outdoor Rink Attendant is responsible for varied technical, complex, and confidential functions, many of which have deadlines and require attention to detail. Approximately 70-90% of the time, work is performed at the highest level of detail under the pressure of deadlines.

Activities that occur constantly (5–8 hours/shift): standing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions 

Activities that occur frequently (2–5 hours/shift):  walking, reading

Activities that occur occasionally (up to 2 hours/shift): feeling and eye/hand/foot coordination

Activities that occur rarely (do not exist as regular part of job): sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and grasping
