About the Department
Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant I to join our Public Utilities Department. Brunswick County Public Utilities provides water and wastewater services to individual, retail, and wholesale customers across the county. Our Public Utility team is committed to the community and takes a lot of pride in providing a high level of service to our customers every day.
The Administrative Assistant I performs skilled administrative and clerical work in support of effective and efficient Public Utilities operations. Work includes:
- Maintaining complex and detailed files and records, reports, documents, and correspondence.
- Transcribing and independently preparing correspondence.
- Preparing informational brochures, fliers, presentations, etc.
- Providing professional and courteous assistance to the public.
- Providing backup support to other administrative and dispatch staff.
The Administrative Assistant I regularly interacts with Utility leadership and employees and may also interact with other county employees, property owners, contractors, engineers, developers, and the general public. If you are a customer focused team player with excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to exercise independent judgement and demonstrate initiative in all phases of work, we’d love to talk to you!
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree and three (3) to four (4) years of experience in clerical or administrative work, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and specifically Word and Excel.
- Notary Public Certification required or must acquire within the probationary period.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina or South Carolina.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, typewriters, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time.
