The role of the Research Assistant is to support the preparation of an academic research paper for publication. The Research Assistant will assist with literature review, data organization, and the drafting, editing, and formatting of a scholarly manuscript in collaboration with the lead author(s). This role requires strong writing, critical thinking, and research skills, as well as familiarity with academic style guides.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Academic Writing & Publication – 100%
Conduct and synthesize literature reviews from scholarly sources.
Assist with structuring and writing sections of the research paper, including background, methods, results, and discussion.
Edit and refine drafts for clarity, grammar, flow, and adherence to journal style guidelines (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago, or specific journal requirements).
Help manage references and citations using tools such as MyBib or EndNote.
Fact-check data, figures, and tables to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Coordinate with the research team to incorporate feedback and track revisions.
Support submission process, including preparing figures, tables, and supplementary materials as required by the target journal.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or graduate coursework in STEM, education or equivalent research/writing experience.
Strong academic writing and editing skills.
Familiarity with scholarly databases (e.g., PubMed, JSTOR, Google Scholar).
Experience with citation management.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Prior experience with peer-reviewed publication or assisting in academic research projects.
