Athletics Communications Assistants report to the Athletics Communications Assistant for Broadcasting and Assistant Athletics Director, Athletics Communications. These positions are designed to assist the Athletics Communications office with game day statistics and broadcasting and other media relations associated with Plymouth State athletics. Positions are considered non-essential, but candidates must be available to work home athletics events during weekday afternoons and evenings and weekends. Athletics events are not always canceled when campus is closed.
Duties/Responsibilities
Duties vary depending on what areas the candidate is most interested in. Athletics Communications Assistants work to compile statistics during home events, aide in the broadcast of home events, assist with office work, provide photography and/or content creation, and serve as public address announcers at home events.
Statistics
Stat inputter – responsible for entering data into live stat program during the event.
Stat caller – responsible for relaying the action from the event to the Stat Inputter for capture.
Scoresheet – responsible for maintaining the official NCAA scoresheet (not needed for all sporting events)
Participation – responsible for tracking team members who participate in an NCAA sanctioned home event (not needed for all sporting events)
Broadcast
Commentator – responsible for play-by-play or color commentary during home athletics events.
Producer – responsible for all aspects of the broadcast, including managing commentators, working with camera operators to obtain necessary shots, running ads, controlling on-screen graphics/scoreboards, managing replay.
Camera operator – responsible for manning the camera(s) at home athletics events, providing the feed for the broadcast.
Office Work
Create game programs for home athletics events.
Assist with confirming NCAA statistics at the end of each sport season.
Update website with pertinent information.
Photography/Content Creation
Provide action photography at home athletics events.
Create short highlight clips at home athletics events to promote PSU Athletics.
Public Address Announcer
Serve as PA announcer at home athletics events.
Announce starting lineups, sportsmanship statements and special events at home games.
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Preferred candidates would have knowledge of sports and/or broadcasting, though previous experience is not necessary. The Athletics Communications office will provide training for all interested parties.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Team player.
Able to be flexible.
Available afternoons, nights and weekends (specifically Saturdays).
Comfortable with computers and current technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience or knowledge of sports and/or broadcasting.
