JOB TITLE: Student Success Center Lab Specialist

REPORTS TO: Student Success Center Director                                              

DEPARTMENT: Student Success Center

VICE PRESIDENT: Vice President of Planning, Effectiveness, and Technology

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students.

Serve as the Lab Specialist for the campus Student Success Center.  Lab Specialist will monitor the lab and equipment needs; work with the Success Center coordinators and director to build and monitor tutoring services; manage student individualized progress plans and student contact using various software; track and report on lab usage.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate’s Degree; a minimum of two years of related experience.

         

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices. 

Be familiar with Microsoft Office products

Assist students with computer software, my.Hinds, Canvas, and other technology needs

Assist students in making academic progress using individualized progress plans

Provide tutoring assistance to students as needed

Coordinate and assist teacher scheduling for the use of labs as needed and maintain a clean, orderly lab

Provide essential computer maintenance in the lab and complete yearly computer inventory

Generate reports and meet with SSC Coordinators and faculty as needed.

Provide workshops offered by the SSC to expand lab usage and to expand student knowledge of the SSC

Maintain a caseload of tier 2 students to track and support

Contact students as needed to assist instructors in helping students be successful in their classes

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
