WHO WE ARE

The mission of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board (Los Angeles Tourism) is to improve the quality of life for all Angelenos through the economic and community benefits of tourism. Representing over 1,000 local tourism-related businesses, Los Angeles Tourism is a non-profit organization responsible for promoting the City of Angels as one of the world’s premier travel destinations. Through its global brand marketing and sales efforts, Los Angeles Tourism works to inspire visitors to immerse themselves in the kinds of unscripted moments and meaningful experiences that can only happen in LA.
THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director, Global Tourism Development, supports global tourism development initiatives by managing key international trade programs and partnerships. This role oversees the strategy and execution of international and VIP familiarization (FAM) trips, manages key relationships with Receptive Tour Operators (RTOs), and partners closely with Los Angeles Tourism’s international offices to align global trade marketing initiatives. The position also collaborates across departments, including Brand and Sales, to ensure cohesive messaging and impactful trade programming that strengthens Los Angeles’ position as a premier global destination.


 WHAT YOU WILL DO 

  • Lead the strategy and execution of global and VIP trade familiarization (FAM) trips, ensuring alignment with core objectives and best practices. Partner with international offices to craft an ongoing communications and engagement strategy for FAM participants.
  • Develop and implement the overarching strategy for Receptive Tour Operators (RTOs), in collaboration with international offices and HQ team. Oversee creation and distribution of RTO-focused messaging and content.
  • Serve as the Global Tourism Development team lead for trade marketing materials, collaborating with Brand and Sales to develop and deploy assets that support global trade engagement. Ensure alignment in messaging and visual identity across key international markets.
  • Identify and manage annual international member engagement opportunities in partnership with international offices. Serve as the HQ point person for member participation in tradeshows, sales missions, and sales calls.
  • Leverage Brand USA, Visit California, and other key industry association programs to increase global visibility and visitation to Los Angeles.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to support paid, earned, owned, and trade programming for international offices. Includes development of co-ops, activations, promotions, and MOUs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 SOME OTHER THINGS YOU MAY DO 

  • Support LA-based trade initiatives as needed.
  • Support Los Angeles World Airports contract deliverables as needed.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure integration of international efforts.

  

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • A minimum of 6-8 years’ relevant experience required.
  • Must be willing to partake in a comprehensive background check including a drug test in accordance with applicable laws. 
  • Prior international tourism or similar industry experience.
  • Understanding of travel trade segment.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Dependable, great attitude, highly motivated and a team player.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various departments. 
  • Ability to work in a changing environment.

 NICE TO HAVES 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

COMPENSATION RANGE

Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.

$100,000 - $115,000 annually

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  –  ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL TASKS The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Requires prolonged sitting, driving, some bending, some twisting neck and body, some stooping and stretching/reaching (up, down, out), requires grasping, feeling, and detecting, requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, mouse, photocopier, fax machine, telephone, calculator, projector, screen for presentations, and other office equipment on a repetitive basis. Requires normal range of hearing, talking, and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and information.

  • Fly on an airplane and sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to get in and out of a vehicle on a regular basis while traveling for work.
  • Able to carry, lift, roll luggage or equipment for work-related travel.
  • Reliable transportation.
