Position: Vocal Music Accompanist - Middle School / High School
Qualifications:
1. Applicants must be a high school graduate or have GED
2. Piano experience required
Salary: $17.54 - $21.01 per hour depending on experience and language skills
Employment: 8 hrs per day (flexible), school year

Reports To: Building Administrator

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Music Accompanist
REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level:
- High School Diploma or GED
Certification/Licensure:
- None required.
- First Aid/CPR certificate desired.
Experience Desired:
- Experience as an accompanist. Be able to play according to someone else’s interpretation.
- Ample experience playing piano well.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to play piano well, expressively as well as accurately, and to sight read music. Must be able to follow director and/or soloists.
- Complete knowledge of musical terms and directions.
- Some ability as a singer to lead sections or sectionals.
- Ability to work well with people, especially junior and senior high school students.
- Ability to work extra hours in evenings and on weekends for concerts, performances and competitions.
REPORTS TO: Music Teacher and Building Administrator
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.
Basic:
- Provide piano accompaniment for classroom, concert, musicals and competition. Will also provide technical music expertise and support in music department. Will also assist faculty with implementation of music.
Frequent:
- Accompany all vocal music classes, including having music prepared ahead of time, to be able to play either accompaniment or parts.
- Accompany swing choir, chorale group, etc. at all practices and rehearsals, and at all performances, whether during the school day, before or after school, during the evening, or on weekends.
- Assist with all auditions, and keep records of all attendance at these practices, rehearsals, or performances.
- Help supervise students at all times, including off-site visits, or at parties and trips.
- Accompany band and orchestra soloists and small groups at competitions and concerts if needed.
- Rehearse before and after school and during planning periods with soloists. Teach them their part if they are having difficulty in reading music.
- Lead sectional rehearsals to teach parts. Sing along with sections to help them stay on their parts. Play parts before and after school for students needing extra help. Rewrite vocal parts or add harmonies when needed.
- Supervise class as the teacher listens to individual voices in another room. Lead discussion of musicals, and when a non-musical substitute teacher is on duty.
- Play through music samples to help the teacher choose new music, and as new music arrives, number it, make card and folder and file it. When choirs pass in music, record and file it.
- Help set up and move music equipment and piano as needed.
- Keep studying to update and expand musical knowledge.
- Practice at school and at home.
- Assist with music department events, and do bookkeeping for music fundraisers.
