- General
- Assist the building principal with the overall coordination of the interscholastic athletic program and serve as a liaison between the principal and members of the coaching staff.
- Assist the building principal in the selection of coaches.
- Make recommendation for improvements within the athletic program to the administration and the Board.
- Mediate the resolution of problems/concerns within the athletic program.
- Be a point of contact for students and community to express concerns regarding athletic programming.
- Provide program evaluations as requested.
- Keep the building principal fully informed on all matters concerning the athletic program.
- Communicate with the Athletic Booster organization in compliance with District Policy and support of student athletics.
- Notify Director of Physical Plant of any maintenance requirements.
- Attend league, conference and PIAA meetings as requested by the building principal.
- Mentor, supervise and evaluate all coaches in consultation with the building principal.
- Manage all components of the district athletic facilities usage by scheduling and coordinating usage of available facilities aligned with administrative regulation and policy.
- Provide input to the Director of Physical Plant to budget for maintenance and repair of athletic equipment or facilities.
- Coordinate the promotion of student athletes potentially eligible for scholarship.
- Serve as the District’s Title IX Compliance Officer.
- Pre-Season
- Arrange all athletic schedules utilizing properly prepared contracts.
- Arrange for the printing and distribution of fall, winter and spring athletic schedules as directed.
- Arrange all transportation related to athletics or activities.
- In cooperation with the head coaches arrange for appropriate pre-season games or contests.
- Prepare the athletic budget in cooperation with the high school principal.
- Review, order, and distribute supplies for coaches and trainer upon request.
- Provide guidance for the preparation of playing fields, grounds and other necessary facilities.
- During Season
- Communicate with personnel in other districts concerning scheduled events, complimentary tickets, officials or other matters required to maintain a positive relationship with competing schools.
- Arrange for officials at all home events.
- Monitor student eligibility and communicate concerns to the student, coach and principal.
- Submit PIAA certificate of student eligibility as required.
- Coordinate needed equipment in advance of home games or contests – i.e., gym score table, benches and chairs, football yard markers, ticket booths, public address systems, telephone connections for radio broadcasting, etc.
- Serve as or designate an official host and guide for visiting teams and officials and see that the physical resources of the school are available as needed.
- Provide for the protection of officials as needed.
- Coordinate media broadcasts and news reports.
- Secure and arrange for all necessary personnel to conduct home events.
- Coordinate with the principal on all matters resulting in the cancellation of contests because of weather or other conditions.
- Complete a financial report following each home event and follow written administrative protocols for processing the deposit of funds.
- Monitor that athletic program expenditures are in line with budget.
- Represent the school in post-season contests.
- Post Season
- Coordinate and supervise the storage, cleaning, and/or reconditioning of equipment.
- Review inventories of athletic equipment submitted to the building principal by head coaches.
- Promotions
- Develop and coordinate an annual district communications plan.
- Serve as communications liaison with all media types at the direction of the Superintendent.
- Maintain knowledge of major happenings within the district, issue news releases, take photographs, and videotape events as requested.
- Coordinate district-wide publications from concept to completion and arrange distribution/mailing.
- Attend all regular meetings of the board and respond to media as requested.
- Organize and assist in planning meetings for communications advisory groups.
- Plan and administer district-wide functions as designated by the Superintendent and act as the district spokesperson if directed.
- Direct the district’s communications program with emphasis on communication to the community and the residents of the district.
- Plan news conferences and prepare special videos or informational programs for special groups as requested.
- Work with parent volunteer coordinators and other parent groups to plan activities and events.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in education, public relations, athletics management or a related field
Demonstrate an aptitude for doing the work listed below using appropriate technical, conceptual and human relations skills properly and efficiently; demonstrate the physical capability to perform assigned tasks; relate well and communicate effectively with administrators, instructional and non-instructional personnel, students, parents, mental health providers, social service agencies, and members of the community; provide appropriate leadership to building employees, coaches, and students; temper strictness with kindness and fairness when dealing with students; adapt readily to changing situations; interpret and follow district procedures; perform assigned tasks with thoroughness, initiative and responsibility; acquire additional skills deemed necessary by the Board or Superintendent.
Job Summary: To provide leadership so students have an opportunity to participate in athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, and a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport and the principles of fair play. To coordinate promotion of student athletes to post-secondary institutions. To advocate for all students and the school district by effectively coordinating internal and external community relations programs and communications for the district. Provide services related to special projects and community needs, supporting students, staff and administrators. The community relations portion of the position is equally as important as the athletic director portion.
