Claremont Care Center, a Generations Healthcare facility, is looking to hire a dedicated and experienced Director of Staff Development (DSD) to join our team at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Center (MHRC). This role is key to ensuring our staff are well-trained, supported, and equipped to provide the highest quality of care to our clients. The DSD will lead employee orientation, in-service training, and professional development initiatives, while also supporting nursing operations and compliance with regulatory standards. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive orientation program for all new employees.
- Coordinate and provide in-service education on regulatory requirements, clinical skills, behavioral health care, infection control, safety, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed practices.
- Ensure compliance with Title 9, DCHS and facility training requirements.
- Maintain training schedules, records, and documentation to support survey readiness.
- Assist the Director of Nursing Services with supervision and oversight of daily nursing operations.
- Provide support in scheduling, staffing, and coverage as needed.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Monitor nursing practices to ensure adherence to care standards, safety policies, and client rights.
- Ensure mandatory annual and ongoing training is completed by all staff.
- Coordinate continuing education programs to maintain staff competencies.
- Assist in policy development and implementation related to staff training and education.
- Stay current on changes to regulations affecting staff education and care delivery.
- Act as a resource for staff, providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and accountability.
- Support the Director of Nursing Services in addressing performance concerns and ensuring corrective training is provided.
- Collaborate with IDT members to support interdisciplinary education and training needs.
- Knowledge of nursing practices, behavioral health principles, and MHRC regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of staff education methods, adult learning principles, and training program design.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records systems; PointClick Care preferred.
- Proficiency with documentation and use of basic computer applications (e.g., Office365 or similar).
- Organizational and time-management skills to balance multiple priorities.
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to support both clinical operations and staff education functions.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to deliver engaging and effective training to diverse staff groups.
- Ability to build positive relationships with clients, families, staff, and outside agencies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning.
- Current and unencumbered California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT), Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a behavioral health, MHRC, SNF, or other related healthcare setting.
- Previous experience in staff education, training, or leadership strongly preferred.
- Basic Life Support Certification required.
- Experience working with adults with moderate to severe mental illness preferred
