Applied Composites (AC) is seeking an Engineer 3, Mechanical who will provide extended expertise in developing, designing, and testing a wide range of aerospace composite and mechanical products to meet stringent requirements and specifications. Performs mechanical development and integration assignments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides mechanical design expertise to support development of new composite products and improving existing ones
  • Designs composite layup molds and complex assembly fixtures
  • Designs composite/metallic parts and assemblies, including material selection
  • Specifies and selects appropriate composite manufacturing processes and manufacturing methods to fabricate flight hardware
  • Performs calculations and structural FEA during the product design phase
  • Leads engineering teams to ensure tasks are completed correctly and in a timely manner, and provides technical knowledge and expertise for colleagues
  • Reduces costs and improves mechanical design and composite manufacturing processes, using best practices and professional knowledge
  • Develops program engineering plans ensuring all aspects of the design, manufacturing, and testing phases are identified and feasible
  • Uses experience to guide the program team to success
  • Reviews the work of other engineers
  • Identifies and understands project risks, and develops mitigation plans
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


 Job Specifications:

Education:  Post-secondary degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations
Years' Experience:  7+ years of relevant experience
Skills:

  • Demonstrates expertise in the design of complex composite parts including bonded & bolted composite/metallic assemblies
  • Excellent ability to apply a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Expert in CAD and 3D modeling
    • Prior experience with CREO highly preferred
  • Experienced in the design of composite tooling and assembly fixtures
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to apply core concepts of engineering (mechanics, kinematics, materials science, and structural analysis)
  • Strong understanding of composite manufacturing processes
  • Ability to explain a range of complex technical information
  • Experienced in engineering drawing generation and GD&T
  • Strong Microsoft Excel user
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
  • Is able to lead a team of engineers effectively and maintain accountability for milestones
  • Understands the entire engineering process from concept generation to hardware fabrication, and is able to identify the necessary tasks required for program success
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with ability to create clear and succinct presentations and reports to communicate processes and project results with internal and external customers
  • Ability to draw on past experience to solve engineering challenges independently
  • Ability to perform structural calculations and analysis
    • Prior experience with FEA (particularly FEMAP) strongly preferred
