GRADE: 35N
MIN.ANNUAL SALARY: $105,676 - $137,379
- Performs professional engineering of a technical and administrative nature.
- Assisting in the direction of the office and field staff of Engineering Services.
- Assists Director of Engineering and may assume Director duties when requested.
- Work involves design of capital improvement projects, supervision of the engineering staff in planning and designing public works construction and directing, supervising and inspecting the work of construction forces.
- Assignments are usually broad in scope and require considerable judgment, initiative and professional knowledge and involves the responsibility for making decisions of engineering problems.
- General supervision is received from the Engineering Manager through consultations, review of reports and evaluation of work accomplishments.
- CAD literate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Without Accommodations):
- Able to read, write, speak and understand English in order to communicate with general public, co-workers and contractors.
- Able to navigate over unlevel ground, and on all levels of building throughout all phases of construction.
- Able to work a forty (40) hour workweek or more when necessary.
- Able to use equipment/material as specified in this job description.
- Computer literate and keyboard/mouse proficient.
- CAD or CADLT literate.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
- Normal instruments required to perform engineering functions and duties, such as survey equipment, personal computer, calculator, typewriter, Fax, copier, etc.
ENVIRONMENT:
- Indoors in air-conditioned office and outdoors in all types of weather, approximately 80/20.

DUTIES/TASKS/JOBS:
- Directs professional, sub-professional and other employees in the analysis, development and design of a variety of public work projects.
- Gives professional engineering advice and confers with department heads and private contractors.
- Reviews and approves plans and specifications for public construction projects.
- Prepares construction plans and specifications for the bidding process.
- Confers with, advises, and supervises inspectors of constructions projects.
- Assists in the compilation and preparation of budgetary requirements.
- Represents the City in contacts with other governmental jurisdictions, contractors and the general public on engineering matters.
- Presents to the Engineering Manager the status of the various construction projects for his/her review and recommendation.
- At the completion of a project, acquire as-built plans from the owner/applicant and a certificate of completion from the engineer of record.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Engineering (PE) License
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as related to the preparation of plans and specifications.
- Thorough knowledge of construction materials and of approved standards of safety related to construction.
- Ability to instruct engineering personnel in proper work methods and standards to the design and construction for a variety of public works projects.
- Ability to express facts and ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and written.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Knowledge in use of surveying equipment techniques.
- Graduate of an accredited University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Environmental Engineering.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida operator’s license.
- Ten (10) years’ engineering experience, preferably in municipal government.
- Ten (10) years’ experience handling multiple projects (Project Manager)
- Ability to use Auto cad Program to efficiently input data in needed formats.
