About the Department
Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled manual labor and operates equipment used in maintaining the City's parks spaces. This role performs a variety of skilled work within park system and provides support to all aspects of City maintenance operations. This includes assisting with general park maintenance, park amenities- playgrounds, shelters, and courts; forestry operations, streetscapes, and cemetery operation. Weekend and overtime work is required on an as needed basis.

- Perform routine park maintenance using best management practices including trash removal and cleaning, playgrounds, shelters, and park property.
- Park amenity maintenance, cleanliness, and inspections including but not limited to: playgrounds, courts, shelters, court maintenance, and graffiti management.
- Snow removal maintenance including but not limited to removing snow from paths, parking lots, and sidewalks.
- Performs general landscaping, forestry, and cemetery operations and assists with irrigation maintenance, including installation and repair of irrigation systems.
- Good customer service skills and the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external persons during the course of work.
- Other duties as required.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May supervise seasonal Parks Maintenance staff on occasion to assist with general parks, forestry, cemetery, and athletics maintenance projects.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or comparable educational credential
- Two (2) years full time experience in operating equipment used in parks and facilities maintenance tasks as described in this job description
- An equivalent combination of acceptable training, education, and experience may be considered
Other Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and skills associated with general parks and landscape maintenance standards to provide healthy and sustainable parks spaces.
- Knowledge of computer technologies and Microsoft office suite products.
- Knowledge of the inspection process of playgrounds and parks for safety and hazards often found in/ on park amenities.
- Knowledge of risk management in relation to recreational amenities and park facilities
- Knowledge of safe equipment operations and routine maintenance of parks equipment and vehicles.
- Skill in the safe operation of equipment in rough, uneven, or slippery ground conditions
- Ability to learn and operate within software systems supporting daily work orders and inspections of parks and playgrounds.
- Ability and skill to interact and respond to requests and inquiries from customers in a professional, positive, and friendly manner.
- Ability to work unsupervised while completing assigned work tasks.
- Ability to perform strenuous work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions while applying common sense and understanding to carry out the work task.
- Ability to safely operate equipment and general parks tools.
- Ability to adjust in the field.

SPECIAL LICENSE, REGISTRATION, OR CERTIFICATE REQUIRED:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Current driver’s license in good standing with no major violations in the past three (3) years and must maintain good standing through continued employment
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Candidates will be required to complete and pass a pre-placement physical, drug screen (including marijuana), background investigation, and positive reference checks prior to employment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; use hands, fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and read, speak and hear.
Ability to use janitorial equipment and chemicals, mechanical hand tools, agricultural hand tools, push lawn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, riding mowers, landscape tractors, three-point attachments, electrical power tools, pick-up truck, small utility vehicles, walking mowers and sprayers, and backhoe.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near parks maintenance equipment and moving mechanical parts. The work is performed in all types of outside weather conditions from extreme heat to rain, snow, and cold temperatures. The employee is frequently exposed to equipment vibration, fumes, airborne particles and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
The standard schedule for this role is based on a 40-hour work week. Position may require any combination of weekday hours, weekend work, and overtime work supporting permits and events.
