This is a benefited, full time position generally working Monday-Friday either from 7:30am-4:30pm. Hours will vary as needed. Located at Scripps Coastal Jefferson in Oceanside. This is a dual position working as both a Medical Assistant and Patient Services Representative.

What you'll do:
This a dual role position covering both Medical Assistant duties as well as Patient Service Representative duties
Greeting and checking out patients at the back office
- Registering patients and verifying insurance/demographic information
- Scheduling appointments
Answering messages (high volume in electronic medical records as well as faxing)
- Processing referrals and authorizations
- Collecting copays and handling billing questions
- Coordinating communication between patients, providers, and staff
- Responsible for knowing professional scope of practice as defined by the California Business and Professional Code and for successfully completing the Scripps Clinical Core competency program.
- Maintains a clean, organized and safe environment.
- Organizes and performs patient care services that support the physician's practice including but not limited to the following:
- Assisting in preparing patients for examination/procedures
- Assisting physicians with procedures
- Relaying instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person
- Collecting patient data in person and by phone and documenting patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
- Administering medications specifically directed by the physician and performing vital sign documentation
- Scheduling of appointments and procedures
- Complete and accurate message taking
- Routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
- Order and referral entry
- Acquisition of pre-certifications and setting up of cases in EPIC
- Basic registration and updating of demographics.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
- Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program, or Medical Assistance Certification, or a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman
Required Certification/Registration:
- BLS required in clinical setting for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
