Customs Consulting & Compliance Manager is responsible for supporting the consulting and compliance functions of AFC International, LLC.
Customs Consulting & Compliance Manager responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Classify products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule
- Establish and support duty avoidance and duty recovery programs
- Assist customers in establishing a customs compliance manual
- Perform entry summary audits
- Research and file Post Summary Corrections
- Collaborate with internal departments to support the growth of microsite programs offering ideas to improve and grow.
- Manage and oversee the AFC microsite team encouraging revenue growth with metrics reporting and assist with troubleshooting to resolve issues timely without impacting the customer’s experience.
- Consult with new importers on customs and OGA (Other Government Agencies) regulations
- Review and identify Customs compliance issues
- Increase service offerings through business development and prospecting potential clients
- Engage with new and existing customers on Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) participation
- Keep current with developing trends, new regulations and Customs Border Protection (CBP) or OGA programs
- Lead and manage a team; fostering a positive work environment; mentoring, coaching, and developing team members in order to provide opportunities for growth; developing current and future leaders for the organization to successfully meet department and business objectives and goals
Qualification, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent education plus work experience
- 5+ years’ experience in Customs regulations, clearance, and brokerage
- 3+ years’ experience in a supervisory or management role leading high performance teams
- U.S. Customs Broker License required; Individuals who have successfully completed the required licensing examination and are currently awaiting formal issuance due to administrative or regulatory processing may be considered under the designation “Licensed and/or Awaiting Licensure.
- Experience with C-TPAT, Drawback, Foreign Trade Zone and Inbound Transportation experience preferred
- Experience with transportation management systems/software; Cargo Wise preferred
- Previous Inbound Transportation and/or customs brokerage experience a plus
- Knowledge and understanding of Tariff Classifications and Country of Origin
- Ability to meet with customers and speak to processes regarding importing parts or finished products and warehousing and transportation security needs to final US destination
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and inter-personal skills, with the ability to clearly
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing unmatched customer service
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
