Southsea Infant School is a diverse and inclusive mainstream infant school, with a small inclusion centre (Starfish class).

We are seeking an experienced Special Needs Assistant to join our Inclusion Centre Team. Starfish class has 8 children from Year R- Year 2 with additional needs, including social and communication difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Conditions. The inclusion centre has been recently refurbished and extended. 

This role would be to work as part of the team; supporting children’s learning through a range of 1:1 and small group intervention programmes and with other teaching and learning activities in and out of the classroom.  

The successful candidate will: 

  • Be enthusiastic and caring, flexible and adaptable 
  • Be willing to work collaboratively with all colleagues
  • Be committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all pupils
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to build and maintain effective and positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents
  • Have experience of working within the primary age-range in a supporting role for children with SEND.
  • Have GCSE Maths and English at Grade C and above or equivalent.
  • Be a team player who is also able to work independently and show initiative
  • Have a firm commitment to securing the best possible outcomes for all pupils
