POSITION: STAFF ACCOUNTANT
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Budget
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required. One or more years of related work experience in a higher education, non-profit, or mid-sized company environment preferred. Applicant must possess excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, with a strong background in Excel. Knowledge of network general ledger systems and report writing software, such as Crystal reports a plus.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Perform various accounting, budget monitoring, and assistance with internal and external accounting and reporting functions. Ensure adherence to University policies and generally accepted accounting principles.
DUTIES:
- Audit and review expenditures for proper G/L account coding, University policy compliance, budget fund availability, and reasonableness. Expectations are to make corrections and modifications when necessary, including budget reallocations in the ERP system.
- Review and process expense reports and employee expense reimbursements.
- Prepare various related financial analysis and reports.
- Complete bank reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile travel advances.
- Record actual expenditures and using this data, update various forecast and budget projections. Input budget fund reallocations into ERP and Excel.
- Input journal entries into the accounting system for the monthly and year-end close process.
- Process, post, and reconcile prepaid expenses.
- Create, input and maintain excel spreadsheets related to various budgetary accounts.
- Assist with year-end audit and prepare schedules/respond to requests as needed.
- Serve as backup to other staff in the Business Office as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of budget and forecast schedules and journal entries.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
