Join our team as a Water Industry Worker 1 (SMBI Labourer) 

 

Play a key role in maintaining Redland City’s water and wastewater networks, keeping hydrants, mains, and related infrastructure operating safely and efficiently. You’ll be based on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands – either a resident or willing to travel via ferry daily. This is a hands-on, field-based role with opportunities to progress to higher levels by developing your skills, gaining qualifications, and demonstrating leadership and technical expertise. 

 

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Assist with construction, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater infrastructure

  • Operate tools, small plant, and light equipment safely on site

  • Perform confined space entry and traffic management tasks under supervision

  • Help plan and schedule jobs, requisition materials, and maintain accurate records

  • Use SCADA, telemetry, and GIS to monitor and support operations

  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures and report risks

  • Work closely with the team to achieve tasks efficiently and safely

  • Provide professional customer service and clear communication at all times

 

 

Skills and experience:

 

  • Hands-on experience in water, wastewater, or construction-related maintenance

  • Ability to operate and maintain tools, small plant, and light equipment

  • Comfortable performing manual labour, confined space entry, and traffic management

  • Basic administrative skills: job planning, scheduling, and record-keeping

  • You’ll be able to meet all mandatory licensing, regulatory requirements, and Council policies
