Overview:

Novant Health is seeking a Pharmacy Tech II-Certified, to join our Pharmacy team, to deliver optimal medication management across all dimensions of care, every time.

 

Full-time, Monday - Friday, 1st shift schedule

Will float to all acute care facilities within the Triad region as needed

 

The pharmacy technician will have a Procurement Focus! Essential functions will include:

  • Purchasing: utilizes inventory software to help maintain appropriate inventory par levels in both automated dispensing machines as well as central pharmacy; reorders drugs and supplies from approved vendors
  • Stocking: Places inventory on shelves or appropriate storage area. Ensures barcoding is in place and operable.
  • Financial: Identifies opportunities to reduce costs and to maintain quality of drugs purchased; collaborates with Director/Manager.
  • Document handling and storage: Follows defined procedures for receiving drugs and processes invoices in a timely manner. Maintains document/record storage according to policies and procedures.
  • Pharmacy charge and revenue management: Processes interdepartmental charges; ensures correct invoicing and payments. Processes pharmacy revenue work queues. Evaluates medication price and billing information in the electronic health record.
  • Compliance: Assists with regulatory compliance regarding policies and procedures that impact inventory such as: 340b, Look Alike/Sound Alike and High Alert/High Risk as well as Hazardous Drug management; leads inventory related special projects.
  • Evaluation: Acts as part of the Novant Health System Procurement team by monitoring, researching, managing, and reporting drug shortages to department and corporate leadership.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High School or GED required.  Two year Associates Degree preferred.
  • Experience: Acute: Minimum of two pharmacy skills (examples may include medication distribution, sterile compounding, and/or medication listing activities) required. OR...hired as a Pharmacy Technician 1 Certified and now competently performing a second pharmacy skill as described above. OR pharmacy intern enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school, required.
    Outpatient Oncology: Minimum of two years of experience in any setting required with one year of experience in sterile compounding (of IV and/or chemotherapy admixture) preferred, required. Specialty Pharmacy: Minimum of two years in any setting required with one year in specialty pharmacy setting preferred, required.
  • Licensure / Certification / Registration: Current registry with applicable State Board(s) of pharmacy, required. PTCB or NHA Certification within 60 days of hire, or proof of enrollment in pharmacy school/(NCBOP pharmacy intern license)/or FPGEE/FPGEC, required. A minimum of one relevant specialized certificate/certification from approved vendor such as PTCB, BPTS or NPTA (examples include but are not limited to product verification, medication history, hazardous drug management, billing/reimbursement, controlled substances diversion prevention, medication therapy management, sterile compounding). This must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained as applicable. Not applicable if currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy with an active NCBOP pharmacy intern license, required.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements required: State Registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or be actively enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school with an active NCBOP pharmacy intern license, or be active in Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) or Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Certification (FPGEC). Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements preferred: Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals. Experience with inventory management.
