Job Title: Clinic Physician Coder

Department: Business Office 

Reports To: Revenue Cycle Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: 40/week 

Shifts: Days, Monday - Friday

WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR FCMC

Our Physician Coders are responsible for completing all coding related to the physician offices in a timely and efficient manner. More specifically, some of the Physician Coders’ important responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing documentation to ensure capture of all diagnoses and procedures
  • Coding all surgical procedures performed by the Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OBGYN, and Behavioral Health
  • Ensuring coded services, provider charges, and medical record documentation meet appropriate guidelines or standards
  • Ensuring that all documented professional services are submitted and billed promptly
  • Communicating effectively with physicians and staff regarding coding and documentation concerns or issues
  • Working as a team member within the Business department, assisting with other duties when needed



Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of RHC-CBS certification with 12 months of hire
  • 1-2 years of experience in medical coding or related medical field preferred
  • Must know about ICD-10-CM and CPT coding
  • Must have the ability to operate standard office equipment and computers
  • Must exemplify good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Must have ability to problem-solve and work independently and efficiently
  • Must be detail-oriented and accurate


Essential Job Functions:

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Must have normal range of eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment
  • Requires sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching
  •  Requires lifting paper or boxes up to 35 pounds when needed
  • Must comply with HIPAA and patient privacy
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required to maintain infection control standards 
  • Must submit to COVID-19 testing as required by CMS and other regulatory agencies according to FCMC policy
  • Must have full COVID-19 vaccination (some exemptions allowed)


Work Environment:

  • FCMC operates 24 hours per day each day of the year; operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the patients
  • This role is performed under typical office conditions with a low noise level
