Position Summary
The Facilities & Engineering Manager is responsible for leading facility operations, engineering, automation systems, and process improvements in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance, efficiency, and strategic growth, overseeing facility maintenance, automation, process engineering, and capital projects. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and cross-functional collaboration to drive operational excellence while managing a team of Engineers and Technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities & Engineering Management
- Oversee the team responsible for GMP facility operations, including cleanrooms, HVAC, utilities, and infrastructure.
- Set and manage priorities for facilities and CAPEX investments, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Lead preventive maintenance programs to ensure reliability and minimize downtime.
- Develop and manage facility budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships for cost-effective operations.
- Drive energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives to optimize facility performance.
- Ensure real estate, lease agreements, and space planning align with business needs.
Automation & Process Engineering
- Oversee automation systems (PLCs, SCADA, MES, robotics) to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
- Integrate automation with production, quality control, and facility operations.
- Drive process improvements and operational excellence through automation and Lean methodologies.
Regulatory Compliance & Validation
- Ensure Building Management Systems (BMS) and Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) maintain GMP compliance.
- Lead IQ, OQ, PQ validation for facility, automation, and process systems.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, EMA, GMP, OSHA, and safety regulations.
- Support regulatory audits and inspections, maintaining required documentation and training programs.
Team Leadership & Project Management
- Builds a cohesive that drives the goals of the organizations and has the right mix of skills
- Motivate team members to reach their highest potential and champions team members’ development through ongoing coaching
- Create an environment that encourages risk-taking, promote teamwork, encourage others to pursue challenging goals and to challenge the status quo.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, R&D, Quality, and Operations teams to align engineering strategies.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, or related field) or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of experience managing a team delivering high team engagement and performance.
- 2 years of experience managing facilities within a GMP-regulated environment.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee complex CAPEX projects such as facilities construction, renovation, expansion or renovation.
- Expertise in contract negotiations, vendor management, and optimization of contracted services.
- Strong knowledge of GMP regulations, OSHA safety standards, and facility compliance requirements.
Technical Skills:
- Experience with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley), SCADA, MES, and robotics.
- Familiarity with HVAC, cleanroom operations, and critical utilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
- Ability to read P&IDs, blueprints, and mechanical drawings.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement strategic improvements.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)
- Certified Facilities Manager (CFM) or Facilities Management Professional (FMP).
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt/Black Belt).
- OSHA/EHS Safety Certification.
Work Conditions & Travel:
- On-site role with occasional on-call responsibilities.
- Travel up to 10% for facility expansions, vendor management, and project oversight.
- Compliance with PPE and GMP facility requirements.
