JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Financial Coordinator ensures compliance with university policies and procedures and exercises independent judgment in the resolution of human resource and payroll issues as well as other duties as assigned. This position is the first line of communication for HR/Payroll matters for the department. This position reports directly to the Director and is responsible for operations in the Department of Ophthalmology which monitors, analyzes, and tracks fiscal and human resources commitments and budgets.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes, monitors, and reviews non-sponsored and sponsored accounts and recommends appropriate corrective action.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for employees and administrative offices (faculty, staff, postdocs) regarding payroll and hiring.
- Processes promotions, transfers, reclassifications, salary increases, additional pay increases, and various payments.
- Verifies and signs biweekly/monthly payroll records, payables and receivables.
- Monitors and approves expenditures and maintains proper records to assure accuracy and compliance.
- Assists the PI with budgets and monthly expenditure reports for federal, foundation, and privately sponsored grants and contracts.
- Assists with operational issues, personnel needs, staff training, budgetary matters, space needs, short- and long-range planning goals.
- Monitor effort reporting to ensure compliance to include running monthly effort certification reports, verifying and correcting effort as necessary.
- Assures compliance with fiscal policy and procedures, auditing, and state/federal guidelines while reconciling accounts (ledgers) and monthly procurement cards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of related experience; OR Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of related experience; OR a combination of related college coursework and professional work experience to equal five (5) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent financial analysis and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to accurately work with detailed data.
- Excellent computer and written and verbal communication skills.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
