CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

RISK ASSESSMENT SPECIALIST

SCOPE: Ensures timely and effective special incident report (SIR) management.

SUPERVISION: Receives general supervision from Consumer Services Manager or Consumer Services Supervisor as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (These are examples of the types of duties that may be performed. Additional duties may be added.)

1. Receives and reviews special incident reports to determine if incident type meets regulatory reporting requirements; if reportable, Specialist processes or forwards to appropriate unit. Follows through to ensure appropriate in-house action on program-eligible cases. Reviews special incident reports for adequate incident descriptions and regional center preventative action and/or proactive safety planning. Determines that incidents have been appropriately investigated by the agencies identified in Title 17, coordinates communication between agencies. May conduct or arrange for additional investigation as appropriate. Approves or recommends approval of completed investigations for transmission to DDS.

2. Participates in Risk Management activities, including development of Risk Management training and materials, provides consultation and technical assistance to service coordinators and supervisors, regarding recommendations for seeking clinical consultations, preventative action plans and proactive safety training, including NSO training.

3. Inputs and tracks progress of investigations in multiple tracking systems, ensures timely completion and reporting. Processes DDS requests for additional follow-up.

4. Participates in the Risk Management, Assessment and Planning (RMAP) Committee meetings. Develops agenda for the RMAP and completes minutes. Identifies trends and patterns in SIR's, communicates findings and prepares for discussion at RMAP. Collaborates with the RMAP Committee to identify strategies to mitigate incidents when a trend or pattern is verified.

5. Identifies and recommends training topics for case management and vendored service providers, develops or coordinates training, including curriculum and conducts training sessions in partnership with Community Services, as indicated.

6. Prepares management reports, including monthly Board Reports, regarding rates of special incidents, risk assessment, mitigation and management activities, and training and technical assistance provided to staff.

EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

Knowledge: Developmental disabilities, quality assurance practices, current regulatory information, such as Title 17, Sections 54327 and 54327.1.

Skills: Assessment, investigation, collaborative problem resolution, comprehension and communication of complex information, written and verbal communications. Computer usage, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.

Education & Experience: Any combination equivalent to or likely to provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: A Bachelor's degree in a related field, in the human services domain, and four years of related experience. A Master's degree in a related field, in the human services domain, may be substituted for two years of experience.

Reliable transportation, valid CDL and acceptable driving record (or acceptable substitute) required.

This is a non-exempt position. 

Salary: Hourly: $29.49 - $41.66
